INTRODUCTION
1. General
The Component Maintenance Manual obeys the ATA 100 STD (AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION
AMERICA) revision 26 (AECMA simplified English).
This manual gives the procedures tested by the manufacturer in the workshop. Thus an approved tech-
nician who does not know the equipment can repair it and do a full overhaul on it.
The manual does not include the standard usual procedures, the frequency of the repairs and the proce-
dures which agree with the tools available in the maintenance workshop.

3. Identification
The OXYCREW is identified by an identification plate that contains the following data:
- Part Number
- Manufacturer’s Name
- Description of Equipment
- Serial Number
- Date of Assembly or Test
- Inspection Stamp
(1) The OXYCREW is a smoke hood, vacuum-packed in a foil bag and enclosed in a light-weight con-
tainer.
(2) The box assembly consists of a box with a hinged top cover. It is equipped with an inspection win-
dow to see the serviceability indicator of the smoke hood.
(3) The smoke hood is packaged into a vacuum foil bag (referred as to the foil bag). The vacuum foil
bag is attached to the box by two plastic attachment strips and locking clamps. The safety indica-
tors for the different box types are as follows:
− In the PNR E28180/E28180-10/E28180-20-0001 and PNR E28180-20-0006 (Ref. to Fig. 1 and
Fig. 1A), a cord with a serviceability indicator is featured around the bag. It shows the service-
able condition of the foil bag (smoke hood).
− In the PNR E28180-20-0011 (Ref. to Fig. 1B), a colored indicator is seen through the front in-
spection window, which is attached to a cable that lies under the bag. The color of the indicator
shows the serviceable condition of the foil bag (smoke hood).
(4) The smoke hood contains (Ref. to Fig. 3):
- A fire-resistant hood with a protected breathing bag
- An inner mask
- A breathing bag with a volume-controlled relief outlet valve and a KO2 cartridge with a starter.
The KO2 cartridge is connected to the inner mask by a flexible hose
(5) The hood contains:
- A fire-resistant visor with a sound-outlet opening
- A neck seal and body belts
- A relief valve in the hood lets the air out of the inner portion of the smoke coat
(6) The inner mask consists of:
- A hard shell with a soft face piece. The face piece has a safety relief valve against suffocation
- A sound outlet to speak that contains a voice transmitter and a megaphone connector
Page 4
35-10-25 OCT 09/2015
COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL E28180-SERIES
- The hard shell is connected to the volume-controlled relief outlet valve of the breathing bag by a
tube. The openings in the hard shell are to flush the visor with air. The hard shell and inner
mask are attached to the hoods visor by the voice transmitter and the megaphone connector.
The head straps are attached to the hard shell and connected with the hood.
5. Operation
(1) The OXYCREW is a self contained device that contains a supply of breathable gas.
(2) This supply of breathable gas is given by a closed circuit of breathe. That has the function to re-
cycle the expired air and combine it with oxygen, to make it breathable again.
(3) The oxygen is made by an exothermic chemical effect. The potassium superoxide (KO2) of the car-
tridge interacts with the carbon dioxide (CO2) and the humidity of the expired air.
6. Stowage
The OXYCREW can be fixed at its location using a bracket or, if using a PNR E28180-20-0011 unit,
stowed into the headrest of the flight attendant seat. Various bracket types are available. The bracket is
either equipped with two metal bands or a clamping belt.
NOTE: When using a bracket with holding strap, use caution to pass the strap below the
upper handle (Ref. to Fig. 2).
Otherwise the handle could be damaged.

C. Functional Test
NOTE: Do this test only if the serviceability indicator of the smoke hood’s vacuum
foil bag (referred to as the foil bag) is damaged or broken. If using a PNR
E28180-20-0011, the indicator will appear red in color.
If using the PNR E28180/E28180-10/E28180-20-0001 or PNR E28180-20-0006
units, the foil bag must be weighed together with the serviceability indica-
tor and its cord. If using the PNR E28180 -20-0011 unit, the foil bag must
be weighed individually.
(a) Remove the foil bag from the box assy as specified in -DISASSEMBLY-.
(d) Compare the weight shown on the foil bag with the weight indication on the balance. The
value shown on the balance must not disagree with the value shown on the foil bag by
more than 2,5 g (0.00551 lb).
(e) Replace the OXYCREW if the weight of the foil bag is out of the limit.
NOTE: Do this test upon reception of a new PNR E28180-20-0011 Box, upon instal-
lation of a new serviceability indicator into an existing box, or if the indica-
tor appears partially or fully red.
(a) Remove the foil bag from the box assy as specified in –DISASSEMBLY-. If any red is
visible in the indicator, replace the indicator assembly as specified in –REPAIR-. If the
indicator is entirely green, proceed to step (b).
(c) Press firmly down until the band touches the bottom of the box. The indicator window
should appear entirely red. If any green is visible, replace the indicator assembly.
