Instructions: Choose one of the options below. Prepare a short speech about your
topic. This task is interactive which means that you will engage in a conversation
with your teacher. Your speaking will be recorded and assessed in class. Listening to
your own voice and thorough analysis will help you avoid mistakes at a later stage.
Your classmates may wish to ask additional questions.

1. Written prompts
a) What are some of the most popular festivals or celebrations in your country?
When are they celebrated? Are they celebrated as a family or a group?
b) What religious holidays do you know? Is attending a temple / a church / a
mosque / a synagogue on that day part of the celebration? Are there specific
types of gifts to be given?
c) Describe the wedding you've been to or heard about. What gifts do guests
usually give to the bride and groom? Are there any traditional wedding dances
or songs in your country?
2. Written and visual prompts
a) Imagine that you are allowed to make one day a bank holiday. Which one would
you choose and why? Give some reasons and justify your answer.
b) How do people in the world celebrate New Year’s Eve in your country? How do
you celebrate it? How do people decorate their houses?
c) Many people start a new year with a new resolution. Comment on this. Can you
relate to any new resolutions? Have you succeeded?
3. Visual prompts
a) Imagine you are invited to join an Indian family to celebrate Diwali - festival of
lights. Describe the party including food, clothing, your feelings etc.
b) Describe your ideal birthday party.
