The Learner will be familiar on how to install network cables in accordance with network design
and actual installation site.
Can you imagine a world now without emails, online newspapers, blogs, chat and the other services
offered by the internet?
Computer networks help users on the network to share the resources and in communication.
A computer network is a group of devices connected with each other through a transmission medium
such as wires, cables etc. These devices can be computers, printers, scanners, Fax machines etc. The
purpose of having computer network is to send and receive data stored in other devices over the
network.
This module is designed to help you familiarize yourself on how to install computer networks in
accordance with network design and actual installation site.
After you are through with this module, you are expected to be able to:
     1. Define Computer Networking and its advantages
     2. Understand the different types of Networking
     3. Identify the different Networking devices as well as their function
          Before starting the module, I want you to set aside other tasks that will disturb you while
     studying the lessons. Read the simple procedures below to successfully enjoy the objectives of
     this

In general term, Network can refer to any interconnected group or system. In other words, network is
a method of sharing information between two systems. Computers are networked according to certain
protocols, such as TCP/IP, which are the rules and standards that allows computer on the network to
communicate with one another.

Any storage or output device can be shared over a network, but the most common devices to be
used over a network include:

PERSONAL AREA NETWORK (PANs)
         Is a computer network used for communication among computer and different
          information technological devices close to one person.
         Is a small network established for communication between different devices, such as laptops,
          computers, mobiles, and PDAs.
         A PAN may include wired and wireless devices.
         The reach of a PAN typically extend to 10 meters.

         Is a networks that connects computers and devices in a limited geographical area such as
          home, school, office building, or closely positioned groups of buildings.
         Each computer or device on the network is a node.
         Wired LANs are most likely based on Ethernet Technology.

METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORKS (MANs)
       It is relatively larger than LAN and extends across a city or a metropolitan.
       It is connected by creating two or more LANs located at different locations in a city.

WIDE AREA NETWORKS (WANs)
       Is a computer network that cover a large geographic area such as a city, country, or spans
        even intercontinental distances.
       Uses as communications channel that combines many types of media such as
        telephone lines, cables and air waves.
       It is often makes us of transmission facilities provided by common carriers, such as
        telephone companies.
       One of the most prominent examples of the existing wans in the internet.

A Hub is a common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to connect

SWITCH
A Network Switch is (also called switching hub, bridging hub, officially MAC bridge) is a computer
networking device that connects devices together on a computer network by using packet switching
to receive, process, and forward data to the destination device.

GATEWAY
A network gateway is an internetworking system capable of joining together two networks that
use different base protocols. A network gateway can be implemented completely in software,
completely in hardware, or as combination of both. Depending on the types of protocols they
support, network gateways can operate at any level of the OSI model.

A network bridge is a computer networking device that creates a single aggregate network from
multiple communication networks or network segments. This function is called network bridging.

ROUTER
A network router is a computer networking device that forwards data packets between computer
networks. Router performs the traffic directing functions on the internet. A data packet is typically
forwarded from one router to another router through the networks that constitute the internet work
until it reaches its destination nodes.
