1. INTRODUCTION
Overview
This control narrative document describes the instrumentation, controls, and interlocks associated with
the Ormat Long-Term Flow Test Production Pad. This document starts with covering the wellhead flow
to the production pad. Once well water reaches the production pad it settles in the atmospheric flash
tank prior to gravity feeding to a series of frac tanks T-3001/2/3/4. From the frac tanks it is then pumped
to the injection pad at the well site for re-injection to the well.

The Long-Term Flow Test Production Pad is designed to extract high temperature water from the well
and use it for re-injection. Depending on the type of well, the water is extracted by one of three options,
artesian, air-lifted, or a motor driven pump. The artesian and air-lifted options use SDV-3002 to stop
well flow when required. If the pump option is chosen, the pump motor is stopped to stop well flow to
the production pad. For motor protection, the pump motor will also be tripped on high-high motor
winding or bearing temperatures via interlock XC-2100.
The water flows from the well to the production pad where the temperature, pressure, and flow are
measured before flowing to the Elevated Atmospheric Flash Tank T-3000.
After flashing off steam and drawing solids from the bottom and routing to Solids Tank T-3006, the
water is gravity fed to a series of frac tanks T-3001, T-3002, T-3003, and T-3004. The level measurement
on T-3001, LIT-3001, is used to control inlet flow to Elevated Atmospheric Flash Tank T-3000. If T-3000
reaches the High-High trip point of LSHH-3000 or the production pad inlet pressure, PIT-2102B exceeds
the High-High trip point of 1145 PSIG, then interlock XC-2100 is initiated and the well flow to the

production pad is stopped via either SDV-3002 (artesian or air-lift options) or by tripping the pump
motor for the pumped option.
The level in T-3004 is controlled by the P-4303/4 spillback valve LCV-3004. If the level in T-3004 reaches
the low-low trip point of 25% as measured by LIT-3004, then interlock XC-2200 is initiated to trip the
pumps to protect against damage due to loss of suction. After Tank T-3004, the water is then pumped
via transfer pumps P-4303/4 to the injection pad at the well injection site.
At injection pad, the water is accumulated if T-3005 for re-injection into the well by pumps P-4305/6.
Level in T-3005 is measured by LIT-3005 and controlled by the P-4305/6 spillback valve LCV-3005. If the
level in T-3005 as measured by LIT-3005 reaches the low-low trip point of 25%, then interlock XC-2300 is
initiated to trip the pumps to protect against damage due to loss of suction.
The water injection flow back into the well is controlled by flow controller FIC-4303B which is
downstream of injection pad pumps P-4305/6. The temperature and pressure of the injection water is
also measured downstream of pumps P-4305/6 and before injection into the well.

TE-2104B – PSS – This AI is an RTD measuring the well pump motor winding temperature. It is covered in
the Cause and Effects and initiates a trip of the well pump motor via interlock XC-2400 when winding
temperature exceeds the high-high temperature trip point.
TE-2105B – PSS – This AI is an RTD measuring the well pump motor winding temperature. It is covered in
the Cause and Effects and initiates a trip of the well pump motor via interlock XC-2400 when winding
temperature exceeds the high-high temperature trip point.
TE-2106B – PSS – This AI is an RTD measuring the well pump motor winding temperature. It is covered in

TE-2108B – PSS – This AI is an RTD measuring the well pump motor upper bearing temperature. It is
covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a trip of the well pump motor via interlock XC-2400 when
the upper bearing temperature exceeds the high-high temperature trip point.
PT-2102B – PSS – This AI is a pressure transmitter measuring the production pad inlet pressure from the
well. This transmitter is covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a well flow shutdown from
interlock XC-2100 when pressure exceeds the high-high pressure trip point.
TT-2114B – PSS – This AI is a temperature transmitter measuring the production pad inlet water
temperature from the well. This input is assigned to IO but there is no logic and is used for indication
only.
FT-2115B – PSS – This AI is a flow transmitter measuring the production pad inlet flow rate from the
well. This input is assigned to IO but there is no logic and is used for indication only.
PT-3002 – PSS – This AI is a pressure transmitter measuring the inlet pressure to Elevated Atmospheric
Flash Tank T-3000. This input is assigned to IO but there is no logic and is used for indication only.
LSHH-3000 – PSS – This DI is a high-high level switch on the Elevated Atmospheric Flash Tank T-3000. It
is covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a well flow shutdown from interlock XC-2100 when the
high-high level trip point is met.
LIT-3001 – PCS – This AI is a level transmitter measuring Tank T-3001 level. It is used as the PV for level
controller LIC-3001 which modulates LV-3001 to maintain level in Tank T-3001 by controlling flow to
Elevated Atmospheric Flash Tank T-3000 which in turn gravity feeds to Tank T-3001.
LIC-3001 – PCS – This PID loop controls the level in Tank T-3001. LIT-3001 (AI) is used as the PV in the
PID, LY-3001 (AO) is used as the CV in the PID.
LY-3001 – PSS – This AO is to the valve positioner controlling LV-3001 which modulates to control
Atmospheric Flash Tank T-3000 level.
LIT-3002 – PCS – This AI is a level transmitter measuring Tank T-3002 level. This input is assigned to IO
but there is no logic and is used for indication only.
LIT-3003 – PCS – This AI is a level transmitter measuring Tank T-3002 level. This input is assigned to IO
but there is no logic and is used for indication only.
LIT-3004 – PCS – This AI is a level transmitter measuring Tank T-3004 level. It is used as the PV for level
controller LIC-3004 which modulates Pumps P-4303/4 spillback flow via control valve LCV-3004 to
maintain level in Tank T-3004. This transmitter is covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a P-
4303/4 trip from interlock XC-2200 when Tank T-3004 level reaches the low-low trip point to protect the

controller LIC-3005 which modulates Pumps P-4305/6 spillback flow via control valve LCV-3005 to
maintain level in Tank T-3005. This transmitter is covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a P-
4305/6 trip from interlock XC-2300 when Tank T-3005 level reaches the low-low trip point to protect the
pumps from losing suction flow.
LIC-3005 – PCS – This PID loop controls the level in Tank T-3005. LIT-3005 (AI) is used as the PV in the
PID, LY-3005 (AO) is used as the CV in the PID.
LY-3005 – PSS – This AO is to the valve positioner on control valve LCV-3005 with modulates to control
Pumps P-4305/6 spillback flow.
FT-4303B – PCS – This AI is a flow transmitter measuring the discharge of pumps P-4305/6. It is used as a
PV for flow controller FIC-4303B which modulates flow control valve FCV-4303 to maintain the desired
flow rate for well injection.
FIC-4304B – PCS – This PID loop controls well injection flow rate. FT-4304B (AI) is used as the PV in the
PID, FY-4304B (AO) is used as the CV in the PID.
FY-4303B – PCS – This AO is to the valve positioner on control valve FCV-4304B with modulates to
control the well injection flow rate.
TT-4304B – PCS – This AI is a temperature transmitter measuring the discharge temperature of pumps P-
4305/6 prior to well injection. This input is assigned to IO but there is no logic and is used for indication
only.
PT-4301 – PCS – This AI is a pressure transmitter measuring the discharge pressure of pumps P-4305/6
prior to well injection. This input is assigned to IO but there is no logic and is used for indication only.
XC-2100-PCS- This is a PLC DO that initiates a shutdown of well flow to the production pad, either via
SDV-3002 for Artesian and Air Lifted wells, or by tripping the motor for the well pump. This interlock is
covered in the Cause and Effects and initiates a well flow shutdown when well pressure exceeds the
high-high pressure trip point or Atmos Flash Tank T-3000 High-High level is reached at LSHH-3000.
XC-2200-PCS- This is a PLC DO that initiates a trip of Transfer Pumps P-4303/4 if Tank T-3004 level
reaches its Low-Low trip point to protect the pumps from losing suction flow. This interlock is covered in
the Cause and Effects.

XC-2300-PCS- This is a PLC DO that initiates a trip of Transfer Pumps P-4305/6 if Tank T-3005 level
reaches its Low-Low trip point to protect the pumps from losing suction flow. This interlock is covered in
the Cause and Effects.
XC-2400-PCS- This is a PLC DO that initiates a trip of the well pump motor if the pump option is used.
This interlock is covered in the Cause and Effects and initiated by High-High motor winding temperatures
on TI-2104B, TI2105B, or TI-2106B, and also by High-High Upper or Lower Bearing Temperature on TI-
2107B or TI2018B.

NOTES
1. Flow direction shall be stamped or cast on the body of the valve.
2. Valve shall be operational under full shutoff differential of 750 psig.
3. Actuator sizing shall be based on 1.5x to 2.0x the break torque of the valve at the design shutoff differential of 750 psig.
4. The vendor is responsible to size each control valve and provide the best recommendation for size and trim materials per the process data on the data sheet. Calculations shall reflect
consideration of erosion due to high fluid velocity, critical flow conditions (cavitating or flashing liquids), and noise level.
5. Valve noise shall not exceed 85 dBA. If noise is calculated to be above this limit, vendor must provide a proper noise abatement solution.
6. All pressure containing components, including the valve body and flanges, shall be fully rated per the corresponding piping specification requirements.
