LET’S UNDERSTAND
It is great to try new recipes when cooking for yourself or for others. But what happens
when you run into an unfamiliar abbreviation or term when measuring your ingredients? In this
lesson, you will learn the cooking abbreviations and equivalents of measurement.
These easy-to-use conversion charts can help you convert your recipes to the measuring
system you are most familiar with.
Remember:
Abbreviation is a shortened form of a word. Abbreviations for customary measurements end
with a period ( examples: cup- c. , gallon- gal. , quart- qt.) , while metric measurements does not
end with a period ( examples: mililliter- ml , liter- l , kilogram- kg , gram- g )
