First off... hey—I'm sorry. It's not easy for ME either, you know.
| didn’t WANT to kil Atom Eve... kinda had to, Please don’t
hold it against me.
| mean, Hove her as much as the next guy, maybe more. I feel
your pain, really Ido. And yes, lay it on me... 'm ready for the
‘on. It's all part ofthe story, it had to be done.
IF any of you reading this are actualy thinking of quitting the
book simply because Eve is dead... all | ask is that you give me
‘one more measly issue to make sure that her death was at least
‘worthwhile.
| promise that at the very least... this will be anything but a
meaningless death. You can trust me.
Right?
So....changing the subject a littl... mail?
Robert Kirkman,
explode! Nooo!!! Just when everyone was starting to like him. He
will be missed,
Don't worry, | promise not to kill anyone else for at least... uh.
never mind.
| have to say I was sort of surprised to see “Conquest Part One”
tacked on the cover of issue #61. thought you weren't a fan of “Part
1 of X” comic books. And the extra banner across the top made it
look like some sort of Marvel comic, like Dark Reign or something,
That's the idea. | thought it would be a neat gag if a one-issue
crossover had an aftermath banner just like all other big
crossovers... and in this case, the aftermath is WAAAAAY longer
than the event,
Conquest the character looks pretty neat, reminds me of my gym
teacher last year actually. So when Mark beats this guy i'l be: One
down, forty nine to go, huh?
| believe Notan said “less than fifty,” right? So who knows how
few there actually are,
‘And why do Zechariah and Chloe have costumes that look ike
Invincible’?
Blame Jason Howard. It's meant to be like a wooden stake or
spike... but yeah, the curved thing at the top. | didn’t notice how
‘similar it was until it was too late. There's no connection.
‘Anyway, Keep invincible awesome,
James DeAngelis,
‘We'll do our best.
Hey, what up Kirkman?
Pals
‘Soll caught on late to Invincible, but love the hell out of what you're
doing, Not just singing your praises, but you write some good stutt
(Question number one is how you got started with Image: The
Process of submitting an idea like Invincible and getting it going,
‘What was that like? Long and hard or sweet and short?
‘Well, there are submission guidelines online at imagecomics.
com, My experience was pretty good, obviously. | got pretty
speedy replies but I quickly formed a friendly relationship with
everyone at Image. It it takes a while to hear back, you don’t
necessarily need to fear the worst, it's not a great sign because
| think most people will admit that if their socks are knocked off
you'll hear from the fast (before their feet get cold—HAR) but
it’s not the end of the world,
‘And my first Image submission was rejected.
‘Also, as a writer do you just present ideas and hope that the fat cats,
at Image bite? And did you take any creative writing classes along
the way before you made it with comios?
Image publishes comics, not scripts. If you're a writer you have
to find an artist and put a comic together. Unless you're an
established pro—then we do a little match-making from time to
time... but for newbies... i's trial by fire, wanna make comics?
You gotta make a comic.
Here's hoping that Battle Beast comes back to kick some Viltrumite
‘ass a8 a hired gun. Tag team with Invincible, Harlem Heat-style,
baby!! WCW wrestling reference might be lame sorry) (Which one is
Booker T? —Aubrey). Hope you print tis, long live super heroes and
zombies, YEAHHHH! (in a Howard Dean voice)
George Sanchez
Hah, Aubrey GOT the WCW reference. What a nerd.
Hi again,
‘What its Mr. Kirkman? I just have a few questions for ya that maybe
‘you will answer.
1.1 ove handbooks, and the Invincible ones are great! | was just
wondering if there were any plans on some updates with like Wolf-
Man, Brit, Powerplex, and Kid-Omni Man? | would be all over them!
No plans right now. Sorry.
2. Anything coming up about the books Mark’s dad wrote?
YES,
3, Who is your most favorite character you have EVER created?
My kids,
4, Who is your favorite MarveV0C character?Spider-Man... but I'm over the desire to write him. At least for
now.
5. This one is for Mr. Ottley: Who is your favorite character to draw?
Robert Kirkman
‘Anyways thanks for your time! I can't wait for Haunt! Keep ‘em
coming on time in “09 and beyond!
Adios,
Beau Patton
Shouldn't be waiting for HAUNT much longer... very excited.
Hello Robert,
| just got finish reading Invincible issue #61, and as expected it was
‘awesome. | can guess what is going to happen next issue: Mark's
Going to get his butt whipped and just before Conquest delivers
the kiling blow, Olver will intervene and die in the process. Then
suddenly, Atom Eve will appear and turn Conquest inside out. The
end. Am I right?
Anyway keep up the good work,
wil
Nope.
Dear Mr. Kirkman
Let me start by saying: F***ing awesome series, dude. You've almost
single-handedly brought back my love of serialized comics. l came
into the series lat, but picked up the hardcovers #1 through #3 and
around that time issue #47 was out, so me thinking | was a smart
uy, started buying single issues with #49 on (you can see where
this is going). So, as I not so patiently sit on 13 issues, | wonder:
When isthe fourth hardcover coming out?
Thanks, Kurt
There was a huge delay on the 4th hardcover, due entirely to me
being somewhat irresponsible. BUT... it's out now. So please,
be a dear and pick that sucker up. Enjoy!
Dear Penvincipals,
‘Thanks for another great issue. There is some serious action going
‘on now. Seeing the aftermath of the battle from #60 is devastating
‘My one worry is that these big events will lead to more crossover
issues with other comics. | really lke the fact that when | read
Invincible | don't have to read any other comics to get what is going
(on. The other companies spread storylines over way too many
‘comics and 0 I don’t even bother with a lot of the stories, It is new
and refreshing to see a comic that contains its storyline in one comic
‘and | hope you will continue this trend, Thanks again and I look
forward to this batle with Conquest!
Sincerely,
Magic Mike
It will be a rare occurrence for this series when you're asked
to read something else. And y'know... issue 60 was completely
self-contained, So there! We do have something special
planned for later this year, early 2010, but | promise... it'll be
worth it.
Dr. Kirkman, | presume.
‘Awesome issue! | ove the devastation! The clean-up and ongoing
“Aftermath is really great. One thing that bothers me about comics
js how gigantic events happen in one issue and next issue life goes
on as fit never happened. Keep up the great follow-up! | ama
litle cisappointed at how easily Powerplex isto defeat now (Who is
that rock guy? He is cool!) Hopefully he will return better than ever,
We've not seen the last of PowerPlex. | promise. And that
“rock guy” was BADROGK, of YOUNGBLOOD fame. A creation of
Rollicking Rob Liefeld!
The regret Mark is feeling fr all the tragedy that goes along with
being the most powerful hero on Earth is really working. Love the
tears over Eve and the hopelessness he shows when he uncovers
the dead git in the rubble. Over is a good brother reassuring Mark
about it not being all his fault. Keep Omni-Boy coming! | love Oliver
‘as much as Invincible. | can’t wait until he gets his own book!
That’s probably not going to happen anytime soon.
|1am ready for the Sequids to make their big move! They almost
‘won last time. It is going to be spectacular. (A couple of more.
‘compliments and | will be done.) Conquest is the bomb! The last
page was incredible, Ottley isthe shit
We'll be seeing the Sequids again very soon.
‘Why can't Mark be a little smarter when it comes to dealing with
the Vitrumites? All he as to do is play along with Conquest and he
‘would leave him alone. At the very least it would buy him and Earth
‘some time to plan a defense. | guess Mark is under a lot of strain at
the moment, but mast of the time he is just too rash when dealing
with them.
This time, for sure. But | will point out that they appointed him
the Viltrum Agent of Earth and he pretty much went along with
it. Although, his job was to take over. When Conquest arrived,
he hadn't taken over... he couldn't talk his way out of that.
‘Why would Mark sit down with Cecil? ! mean Cecil almost killed
him in issue #50. | know Mark is the embodiment of honesty and
righteousness and all, but he really needs to slap that dude's head
off, Don't get me wrong, | like Cecil, but from Mark's point of view he
really owes that guy big. Until you Kill of Olver (and probably after,
but | will be pissed) | will be a loyal fant
Allen S
‘There was a lot going on and Cecil is integral to fixing the
‘world. So Mark's hands are kinda tied there.
So that's it, kids. Thanks for reading.

‘And there you go...the real end of the whole CONQUEST EPIC!
Ayan, Cliff FCO, Rus, Aubrey and | have had a blast bringing this story
toyou. I hope you've al enjoyed the rollercoaster of it all. Sory about
‘making you think 'dkiled Atom Eve for a month, | promise that next
time it be fr real.
Anyway, lots of cool stuff going on here. We've got a cool couple
issues coming up for you next but I'l talk about those a litle more at
the end ofthis letters column,
Let's dive into this mai,
YoPemincpas,
‘Tho death of Atom Eve definitly had more emotional effect on me than
any srt of iterature. The sacond being wien Tyrese gets the ax ve got
‘my ey@ on you Robert), But honesty thank you. know you wil be geting
yme hate mall and empty threats about quting the book and whatnot, but
espect you tremendously, especial since we all know tha his isn't as
temporary or contrived as other hero deaths (this includes any bat-people
(or Patios) rea this issue multiple times back-to-back to see if missed
anything, each time being overwhelmed by that terrible page. Conquest

Rathburn, and FCO Plascencia ar without a doubt my favorite team that has
‘ever been on his book or any book lam current reading - you guys are
‘awesome. Icannot wait to see what happens next
‘An everasting and admiring fan,
Jeferson Ferguson (know Ihave a funny nae)
Heh, Eve's death was actually MORE temporary and contrived than

Kikran,

Nick Lene
(, get t..so Invincible cant be as violent and dark as a zombie

Hello Mr. Kirkman
| ally enjoy your comic. Ihave a comic collection of about 6,000 comics

‘The economy has realy forced me to cut back. rarely go out anymore and
{do not have much ofa soca ite anymore. One ofthe few things I til

‘Atom Eve was only a comic character but was probably most male comic
readers’ idea ofthe perfec i. Today was one af those rare days tha | was
realy enjoying mse unt read Invincible #63
(0h, come on... you rarely enjoy yourselt? You're laying tonalite

Pals
‘Yes, understand that Samantha isnot real and is ony a comic character
but you ruined my day. understand itis a small thing in the scheme of
things but tis areal disappointment when even your escapism is taken

| sed to love tis comic book. Lam realy disappointed.
Regards,
Steve Hats
‘And hopefully | won you over with issue 64 and you're reading ths,

You don't need your character going through perpetual soul-crushing dark

‘Awesome.
Hey Kirkman, you freakin rock!

back and once | caught up| immeately added to my buy-it atthe
comic shop. One ofthe main reasons why i that he book always takes
‘me by surprise. So many oer books hold ideals or characters so sacred
that they never try to do anything new or exciting. know that when | open
the new issue of Invincible can expect ont have a freakin’ cue what to

Robert Kirkman,
Was that really necessary? doubt it
Very necessary, as you'l se in upcoming issues.
You can argue that twas fr storyteing, but there are ways and means
to move apltine forward. And the pointless (oh-so-pontess) death of a
‘characteris the worst possible method. The death of Atom Eve was done
solely for shock value. So much for inteligent writing,
ve read comics fora bloody long wile (29 years. Jesus.) and dnvineble

‘Aco, whats it with every comic now having to show any death nthe
‘most grotesque way possible? | read (past tense) Invincible for hero:
‘escapism, not tobe grossed out Dia you realy have to show Eve's death so

Kind of being a jerk there, right? don’t know what in my “apology”
set you off... but okay. | only hope you glanced at the issue onthe
acks and that maybe issue 64 got you back... but y'know, you win
‘some you lose some.
‘At the very least, you do seem tobe inthe minority as sales have been
Jumping up quite a bitin recent history. Issue 64 is our highest selling

course... now | can't. orl be in some kind of love-intrest-kiling rut.
Crap. I'm like Alan Moore with good guys turing out to be bad guys in
everything he does.
