Thank you for the presence of God Almighty. Thanks to His grace and
guidance, the writer was able to complete the assignment of a paper entitled
"narrative text" in a timely manner.
The paper is prepared to fulfill the English Subject assignment. In addition,
this paper aims to add insight about narrative text.
The author thanks Mrs. Yeni Silvienti, S.Pd. M.Pd as an English subject
teacher. Acknowledgments also go to all parties who have helped complete this
paper.

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
Narrative Text is a text whosse content is a story or story about soething. Examples
of narrative of narraive text: legend (legenda), fable (cerita binatang), dan folktale (cerita
rakyat). It contains a conflict/problem followed by a reolution. A narrative tet is one that
entertainss, amuses and els with real or vicarous experiences in different ways.

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION
A. Meaning
Narrative or in Indonesian it is called “narration” is a word that means a series
of events. While “text” has the meaning of writing. So, Narrative Text is a text or
story of a series of connected events, presented in a sequence of written/spoken
words, and/or in a sequence of (moving) pictures.
Naratif atau dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut “narasi” merupakan kata yang
mempunyai arti serangkaian peristiwa. Sedangkan “teks” memiliki arti tulisan. Jadi,
Naratif Teks adalah teks atau cerita yang merupakan rangkaian peristiwa yang
saling berhubungan, disajikan dalam rangkaian kata-kata tertulis/ucapan, dan/atau
dalam rangkaian gambar (bergerak).
B. Generic Structure
1. Orientation: It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story
are introduced. Contains character introduction, where and when the story takes
place; who or what, when and where.
Orientasi : Ini tentang paragraph pembuka tempat diperkenalkannya tokoh-tokoh
cerita. Berisi pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu terjadinya cerita; siapa atau
apa, kapan dan dimana.
2. Complication: Where the problems in the story developed. Problem arise / start to
occur and develop.
Komplikasi: Apa saja permasalahan dalam cerita yang dikembangkan.
Permasalahan muncul / mulai terjadi dan berkembang.
3. Resolution: Where the problems in the story is solved. Problem solved, good
“happy ending” or bad “bad ending”.
Resolusi: Dimana permasalahan dalam cerita terselesaikan. Masalah
terpecahkan, akhir yang baik, akhir yang buruk, atau akhir yang buruk.
4. Reorientation: Closing phrases that indicate the ending of the story. Reorientation
is optional or not always present in narrative text.
Reorientasi: Ungkapan-ungkapan penutup yang menunjukkan berakhirnya suatu
cerita. Reorientasi bersifat opsional atau tidak selalu ada pada naratif teks.
5. Coda: Changes that occur in the characters and lessons / moral values that can
be learned from the story.
Coda: Perubahan yang terjadi pada tokoh dan pelajaran / nilai moral yang bias
dipetik dari cerita.
C.Language Features
In general, narrative text has the following linguistic elements:
1. Past Tense: Narrative text uses past tense verbs (verb 2), for example went, ate
met, and others.
Waktu Lampau: Naratif teks menggunakan kata kerja bentuk lampau (verb2),
misalnya went, ate, met, dan lain-lain.
2. Conjungtion: Using the past time as; at sometime, someday, and others.
Konjungsi: menggunakan waktu lampau seperti; pada suatu waktu, suatu hari,dan
lain lain
3. Time Connective: Is a conjungtion events, for example after, before, after that, and
others.
Penghubung Waktu: Merupakan kata penghubung waktu untuk mengurutkan
kejadian, misalnya setelah, sebelum, setelah itu, dan lain-lain.
4. Action Verbs: Verbs that show events or activities, for example living, climbing,
writing, and others.
Kata Kerja Tindakan: Kata kerja yang menunjukkan peristiwa atau kegiatan,
misalnya tinggal, memanjat, menulis, dan lain lain.
5. Noun: in general nouns are used as pronouns for animals, or objects in a story, for
example the stepmother, the dwarfs, carriage, and others.
Kata benda: pada umumnya kata benda digunakan sebagai kata ganti binatang,
atau benda dalam suatu cerita, misalnya ibu tiri, kurcaci, kereta, dan lain-lain.
6. Verbs that say and think: verbs that show reporting or speech, for example say,
think, and others.
Kata kerja yang mengatakan dan berpikir: kata kerja yang menunjukkan pelaporan
atau ucapan, misalnya mengatakan, berpikir, dan lain-lain.
D. Example of Narrative Text
1. Legend
The legend of Lake Toba
In one village of North Sumatera, there lived a poor farmer named Toba. One
day, he went fishing. Luckily, he got a beautiful goldfish. He carried it home then
planned to cook it. When he got home, the fish turned into a beautiful woman.
The woman told him that she was cursed. She asked Toba to keep it as a
secret. Toba agreed it only with one condition that she would marry him. Then they
got married and soon had one child named Samosir. This boy liked to eat much
food.
One day, mother asked Samosir to bring lunch for her father. On the way to
rice field, he stopped and ate most of food. After that, he gave the rest of food to
his father. Toba was very angry and shouted at Samosir “You, a fish kid, you are
so greedy!”. Samosir cried and ran to his mother. He asked his mother why his
father called him a fish boy.
The woman was really annoyed because Toba broke his promise. The mother
and child disappeared. Not long after that a spring appeared which gave rise to a
very large lake. Its name is Lake Toba. A land in the middle of Lake Toba is called
Samosir Island.
Legenda danau toba
Di salah satu desa di Sumatera Utara, hiduplah seorang petani miskin engah
Toba. Suatu hari, dia pergi memancing. Beruntungnya, dia mendapat ikan mas
yang cantik. Dia membawanya pulang lalu berencana memasaknya. Sesampainya
di rumah, ikan itu berubah menjadi seorang wanita cantik.
Wanita itu memberitahunya bahwa dia dikutuk. Dia meminta Toba
merahasiakannya. Toba menyetujuinya hanya dengan satu syarat ia akan
menikah dengannya. Kemudian mereka menikah dan segera dikaruniai seorang
anak yang diberi nama Samosir. Anak laki-laki ini suka makan banyak.
Suatu hari, ibu meminta Samosir untuk membawakan bekal untuk ayahnya.
Dalam perjalanan ke sawah, dia berhenti dan makan engah besar makanannya.
Setelah itu, dia memberikan sisa makanannya kepada ayahnya. Toba sangat
marah dan membentak Samosir, “Kamu anak ikan, kamu rakus sekali!”. Samosir
menangis dan berlari engah ibunya. Dia bertanya kepada ibunya mengapa
ayahnya memanggilnya anak ikan.
Wanita itu sungguh kesal karena Toba mengingkari janjinya. Ibu dan anaknya
menghilang. Tidak lama kemudian muncullah mata air yang memunculkan sebuah
telaga yang sangat besar. Namanya Danau Toba. Sebuah daratan di engah
Danau Toba dinamakan Pulau Samosir.
2. Fable
Two Wise Goats
One day, there were two goats lived in a small village. The village has a river
with a narrow bridge over it. People used the bridge to cross over the river.
One sunny afternoon, the two goats wanted to cross from opposite directions.
The goats met in the middle of the bridge. The bridge was too narrow. There was
no space for them to pass.
They waited but neither of them moved away. The white goat shouted to the
other, “You must go back since I am older and stronger than you”.
The brown goat refused and said “I am stronger. You are old and will take a lot of
time to cross the bridge”.
Soon their argument turned into a fight. The brown goat struck the other goat
with his horns. The write goat was shock.
He thought that if they continued fighting then they would fall off the bridge and
drown. Suddenly the white goat shouted out “Stop! If we fight we will fall into the
river and drown, instead I shall lie down and you may walked over me”.
The wise white goat then laid down on the bridge and the brown goat walked
carefully over him, so they finally passed each other and were on their way.
Dua Kambing Bijak
Suatu hari, ada dua ekor kambing yang tinggal di sebuah desa kecil. Desa ini
memiliki ungai dengan jembatan sempit di atasnya. Masyarakat menggunakan
jembatan tersebut untuk menyeberangi ungai.
Pada suatu sore yang cerah, kedua ekor kambing itu hendak menyeberang
dari arah berlawanan. Kambing-kambing itu bertemu di ungai jembatan. Jembatan
itu terlalu sempit. Tidak ada ruang bagi mereka untuk lewat.
Mereka menunggu tetapi tak satu pun dari mereka menjauh. Kambing putih
berteriak kepada yang lain, “Kamu harus ungai karena aku lebih tua dan lebih kuat
dari kamu”.
Kambing coklat menolak dan berkata, “Saya lebih kuat. Anda sudah tua dan
akan membutuhkan banyak waktu untuk menyeberangi jembatan”.
Tak lama kemudian pertengkaran mereka berubah menjadi perkelahian.
Kambing coklat itu memukul kambing yang lain dengan tanduknya. Kambing putih
itu kaget.
Ia mengira jika mereka terus berkelahi maka mereka akan terjatuh dari
jembatan dan tenggelam. Tiba-tiba kambing putih itu berteriak, “Berhenti! Kalau
kita berkelahi kita akan terjatuh ke dalam ungai dan tenggelam, sebaliknya aku
akan berbaring dan kamu boleh menginjakku”.
Kambing putih yang bijaksana kemudian berbaring di atas jembatan dan
kambing coklat berjalan dengan hati-hati di atasnya, sehingga mereka akhirnya
berpapasan dan melanjutkan perjalanan.
3. Fairytale
Robin Hood and The Golden Arrow
Once upon a time, in Sherwood Forest, there lived a legendary hero
named Robin Hood. He is an outlaw, a skilled archer, and the leader of a merry
band of men, including Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet, and Alan-a-Dale. They
fought against the injustice of the cruel Sheriff of Nottingham and the greedy
nobles, they steal from the rich to give to the poor.
One day, the Sheriff of Nottingham decides to hold an archery contest in
the town, with the prize being a golden arrow. He hopes to lure Robin Hood out of
hiding and capture him. Robin Hood, who heard of the contest, decided to
participate, knowing it is a trap but Robin is confident in his skills as an archer.
On the day of the contest, Robin Hood disguises himself as an old man
and enters the competition. Archers from near and far gathered to test their skills,
but none could match Robin’s marksmanship. In the final round, with the target set
at an incredible distance, Robin Hood drew his bow and fired a perfect shot, right
on target.
The crowd cheered, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, realizing that only
Robin Hood could have fired such a shot, ordered his men to arrest the old man.
However, Robin Hood reveals his true identity, and with the help of his Merry Men
who infiltrated the crowd, they fight the Sheriff’s guards and escape.
Robin Hood took the golden arrow and returned to Sherwood Forest,
where he and his Merry Men continued their fight for justice and the protection of
the poor. The legend of Robin Hood and his heroic deeds spread far and wide,
inspiring hope and courage in the hearts of the common people.
Robin Hood dan Panah Emas
Pada suatu ketika, di Hutan Sherwood, hiduplah seorang pahlawan
legendaris bernama Robin Hood. Dia adalah seorang penjahat, pemanah yang
terampil, dan pemimpin sekelompok pria yang ceria, termasuk Little John, Friar
Tuck, Will Scarlet, dan Alan-a-Dale. Mereka berjuang melawan ketidakadilan
Sheriff Nottingham yang kejam dan para bangsawan yang tamak, mereka mencuri
dari orang kaya untuk diberikan kepada orang miskin.
Suatu hari, Sheriff Nottingham memutuskan untuk mengadakan kontes
memanah di kota, dengan hadiah berupa panah emas. Dia berharap bisa
memancing Robin Hood keluar dari persembunyiannya dan menangkapnya.
Robin Hood, yang mendengar tentang kontes tersebut, memutuskan untuk
berpartisipasi, mengetahui bahwa itu adalah jebakan tetapi Robin yakin dengan
keterampilannya sebagai pemanah.

menguji keterampilan mereka, tapi tidak ada yang bisa menandingi keahlian
menembak Robin. Di ronde terakhir, dengan target yang ditetapkan pada jarak
yang luar biasa, Robin Hood menarik busurnya dan melepaskan tembakan
sempurna, tepat sasaran.
Kerumunan bersorak, dan Sheriff Nottingham, menyadari bahwa hanya
Robin Hood yang bisa melepaskan tembakan seperti itu, memerintahkan anak
buahnya untuk menangkap lelaki tua itu. Namun, Robin Hood mengungkapkan
identitas aslinya, dan dengan bantuan Merry Men-nya yang menyusup ke
kerumunan, mereka melawan penjaga Sheriff dan melarikan diri.
Robin Hood mengambil panah emas dan kembali ke Hutan Sherwood, di
mana dia dan para Merry Men melanjutkan perjuangan mereka untuk keadilan
dan perlindungan masyarakat miskin. Legenda Robin Hood dan tindakan
heroiknya tersebar luas, menginspirasi harapan dan keberanian di hati rakyat
jelata.

CLOSING
A. Conclusion
Narrative text is a kind of genre that the series of events or stories from
time to time anddescribed in the order beginning, middle and end. Narrative
text has some kind, and also hasa generic structure. Narrative text is usually a
fairy tale animals or humans. The hallmark ofthe narrative text is a sequential
story from beginning to end.
B. Impression
The message that the speaker wants to convey is that the material we
have presented may still be far from perfect, but we hope that the material we
have presented is useful and useful for students. We really need criticism and
suggestions because there are still many shortcomings in the preparation of
this paper.
