Fundamentals - What is the Gospel?
Kingdom / Messiah
Old English – gōd + spell = good-news
So: Mark 1:1 – The good news of Jesus – Messiah (the
4 Gospels – different – Greek - ευαϒϒελιον anointed King of Israel) + Son of God
Euangelion >> good announcement 1:2-3 (Exod 23:20 + Mal 3:1 + Isa 40:3) - Preparation of

What is this good news / gospel?
Jesus comes > Baptism. Why? On behalf of sinful Israel
What is the bad news? (cf Matt 3).
Gen 1, 2, 3 -- - - - - 11 – Human rebellion, downward spiral Jesus – takes the place of Israel – God’s salvation,
of sin > Babel / Babylon through Israel, is fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus is the climax of
God’s redemptive action – Calls Abraham – to bless the God’s story.

This Good news = Kingdom of God - Already come in
Jesus - Not yet fully come - and invite people into this Kingdom!
