Yasi: Hey there buddy!

Nikoo: Welcome back!

Yasi: I’m Yasaman Esmaeili.

Nikoo: And I’m Nikoo Taheri.

Yasi: We’re back with episode three of This is English Around Town.

Music

Yasi: In the previous episode, Nikoo and I went on a walk around the town.

Nikoo: We asked for directions to a Tim Hortons.

Yasi: Remember? Tim Hortons is a fast food restaurant chain, specializing in coffee
and donut items. Very popular in Canada.

Nikoo: Yup, then we looked for a pharmacy and got lost…

Yasi: That was all a few days ago. We’re staying at a nice Airbnb and know the city
much better!

Nikoo: Remember Airbnb? We talked about it in This is English at the Hostel!

Yasi: Anyways, today we decided to take care of our looks a bit. My eyebrows are
growing back again and Nikoo needs a trim.

Nikoo: Yup, we’re heading to Salon Solis. It’s a popular hair salon and it’s got good
ratings.

Yasi: Yup. We’re gonna get an uber ride.

Music

A: Hi.

B: Hello.

A: I’d like to get my hair cut. Can I get it cut now?

B: Yes, just sit down; I’ll be ready in 10 minutes.

Okay, ready now, sit here please.

A: Okay, thank you.

B: Now, how would you like your hair cut?

A: The same style as it is now, just a little trim to tidy it up.

B: And about this much off the top?

A: Not that much, a centimeter longer thanks.

B: How about this length?

A: Yes, that’s great thanks.

B: Okay, take a look. What do you think?

A: I want the bangs just a little bit shorter.

B: Okay. How’s that?

A: Perfect, thank you very much. It looks great.

B: Okay, that’ll be $15. Come this way. Follow me.

A: Here you go.

B: Thank you. Have a nice day. See you again.

Nikoo: What do you think?

Yasi: You look great!

Nikoo: I really liked this hair salon. They were all professionals.

Yasi: So you got a trim right? To get a trim means to cut your hair just a little bit.

Nikoo: Exactly! I also shortened my bangs. Bangs is an area of hair hanging over
the forehead that is cut shorter than the rest of the hair.

Yasi: Now you won’t be able to do a ponytail, though. A ponytail is a hairstyle in

Nikoo: You’re right. But I don’t mind.

Yasi: Now let’s change the scenario. Let’s imagine that you were not happy with
your hair and you want to complain to the hairdresser.

Nikoo: OK, let’s do this!

Music

A: It’s taking you forever to do my hair.

B: Give me a minute.

A: You should’ve been done already.

B: There you go.

A: I don’t think that you’re done.

B: What’s wrong?

A: My hair looks hideous.

B: What’s so bad about it?

A: It doesn’t look good at all.

B: Sorry about that.

A: I really hope that you didn’t expect me to pay you for this.

B: Well, let me talk to my manager, okay?

Yasi: Hideous means very very ugly!

Nikoo: Yup! When you don’t like the service, you should always complain!

Yasi: I couldn’t agree more!

Nikoo: So are you ready to get your eyebrows tweezed?

Yasi: Mmm, actually I’ve changed my mind. I wanna go back home and pluck my
eyebrows on my own

Nikoo: Why? What happened?

Yasi: I don’t know. I think it’s something I should do myself. I know how to shape and
groom my eyebrows best. I wanna create the perfect arch!

Nikoo: OK, but you could easily have them waxed here!

Yasi: I know my eyebrows are bushy and waxing them is the easiest way, but I just
think that will hurt my eyebrows!

Nikoo: Alright then! Best of luck to you.

Yasi: To groom something means to make it neat and tidy.

Nikoo: Bushy eyebrows means thick eyebrows.

Yasi: Some eyebrows are bushy and some are thin.

Nikoo: And then we have unibrows, do you know what they are?

Yasi: Ha ha yeah. I used to have unibrows. It’s when your eyebrows are connected
in the middle. Like you have one very long eyebrow!

Nikoo: We’re on our way back, but I think I’ll pay another visit to the beauty salon
soon.

Yasi: Why? You wanna get a manicure or pedicure?

Nikoo: No, but I think I wanna get some hair highlights.

Yasi: Oh! That would be cool! I might also do that! In fact, I might dye my hair purple!
I might also get a trim next time to prevent getting split ends.

Nikoo: To dye your hair means to color them.

Yasi: And manicure means to do your fingernails and file them and pedicure is to
do your toenails and file them.

Nikoo: Manicure is a beauty treatment and if you get a manicure, they file your
fingernails, they clip them and they also apply nail polish to make your nails look
good.

Nikoo: Now let’s review some hair types : We have curly hair, wavy hair and straight
hair.

Yasi: We also have people who have no hair! That is called bald.

Nikoo: Some people like being bald so they actually shave their head!

Yasi: Not me! I would like to let my hair grow to my waist.
