About our Grand Master -
Tejas Bakre, an accomplished chess Grandmaster and revered mentor, has left an
indelible mark on the world of chess. As the lith Grandmaster of India and the first
player from Gujarat to achieve the prestigious title of International Grandmaster in
2004, Tejas has showcased his remarkable talent and dedication to the game.
He has also held the title of International Master since 1998, solidifying his
consistency and prowess in the chess arena.
Tejas's international achievements speak volumes about his exceptional skills, He
etched his name in history by winning the Asian Sub-Junior Championship in 1997,
becoming the first-ever Indian to accomplish this remarkable feat. Additionally, he
claimed victory in the Asian Junior Championship in 1998 and 2000, equalling the
record set by the legendary Vishwanathan Anand. Notably, Tejas secured a bronze
medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Chess Championship, further adding to his list
of accolades.
The World Youth Olympics witnessed Tejas's extraordinary performance, as he
triumphed with three gold medals within a span of just eight months. This
exceptional feat made him the sole Indian to achieve such a remarkable milestone
in the history of the event. In recognition of his outstanding international
accomplishments, Tejas has received multiple special honours from the Sports
Ministry of the Government of India.
