This process involves the


recruitment, selection, training
and development of
employees.
Components of Staffing
Manpower Planning
It is concerned with creating and
evaluating the manpower inventory
and to develop required talents
among the employees selected for
promotion advancement
Recruitment
It is a positive process of searching
for prospective employees and
stimulating them to apply for the jobs
in the organization.
Selection
It is the process of selecting the
applicant who appears to attain the
requirements for the job. The purpose of
this process is to determine whether a
candidate is suitable for employment
in the organization or not.
Placement and Orientations
PLACEMENT means to place the right
person for the job and ORIENTATION is
concern in the process of introduction
or orienting a new employee to the
organization
Training and Development
TRAINING refers to learning given by
organizations to its employees
concentrates on short term job
performance and acquisition or
improvement of job related skills.
Training and Development
DEVELOPMENT refers to learning given
by organizations to its employees that is
geared toward the individuals
acquisition of his/her skills in
preparation for future job
appointment and responsibilities.
Performance Appraisal

It is a review of the employee's job


performance and overall contribution to
the company.
Promotion
It implies upgrading of an employee
to a higher post involving increase in
rank, prestige or status and
responsibilities.
Transfer
It implies movement of an
employee from one job to another
without any increase in pay, status or
responsibilities.
Separation
It refers to the termination or
ceasing of the relationship between the
organization and the employee.
Recruitment
Internal Recruitment

It is a recruitment which takes place within the


concern or organization. Internal sources are
primarily three:
Transfers
Promotions
Re-employment of ex-employees.
External Recruitment

External sources of recruitment have


to be solicited from outside the
organization
Direct Recruitment
This a source of external recruitment
in which the applications for vacancies are
presented on bulletin boards outside the
Factory or at the Gate. This kind of
recruitment is applicable generally where
factory workers are to be appointed.

commonly used by job seekers and recruiters
to gather and disseminate job opening
information.

Professional organizations which look
towards recruitment and employment of
people, i.e. these private agencies run by

This is recommendation from the
present employees who usually refer friends

These are the specialist people who
supply manpower to the factory or
manufacturing plants. Through these
contractors, workers are appointed on
contractual basis, i.e. for a particular time
period.

Selection

Process
1. Establishing the Selection Criteria
This includes the analysis of the
nature and purpose of the job position
which has to be filled. It includes skills
that the company is looking for in an
employee.
Example:
Formal Education: Must be a college
graduate
Experience: Must have at least 5
year experience in related work
Characteristic – Must be
hardworking
2. Completion of Application form
Application form must be
filled by the applicant with
necessary information that the
company required.
3. Screening of application form
The assessment and selection of
applicants who meet the given criteria
by the company
4. Screening interview
This is where shortlisted
applicants will undergo a formal
interview and will be assess more
closely.
5. Reference Check/ Background Check
This is the verification of the
information provided by the applicant by
calling the person listed in his/her character
reference or calling his/her previous
company or the college where he/she
graduated from.
6. Interview by Manager or Panel Interview
This is when the manager will
assess if the applicants are well-oriented
with his/her characteristics and abilities
towards the job that he/she is applying
for.
7. Psychological and Physical Examination
This is the steps where the
applicant needs to provide a medical
result that he/she is indeed mentally
and physical healthy to perform the job.
8. Placement / Hiring the employee
This is the final step where the
company inform the applicant either
verbal or written, that he/she is chosen
for the position that he/she is applying
for.
Types of Training Program
On the job training- are those which
are given to the employees within the
everyday working of a concern. The
employees are trained in actual working
scenario.

Off the job training- are those in
which training is provided away from the
actual working condition Instances of off
the job training methods are workshops,
seminars, conferences, etc.
