4. Overview:
The sweater is worked from the top down in the round. A er finishing the neck, s tches are
added in three stages: for shoulders, sleeves, and yoke. The yoke is divided for the body and
sleeves and the body is con nued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked
in the round with short circular needle, top down.
7. Adding Stitches for the Sleeves

Now we add stitches only for the sleeves. The number of stitches for the front and back
remains the same.

Add the stitches as follows: Add stitches AFTER markers 1 and 3 and BEFORE markers 2 and
4.

AFTER MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from front to back and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the back of the stitch.

BEFORE MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from back to front and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the front of the stitch.

Add the stitches a total of 21-22-22-21-21 times every 2 rounds. The increased stitches are
worked in stocking stitch. After completing, there are 78-80-88-92-96 stitches for the front
and back, and 58-60-64-62-66 stitches for the sleeves.

8. Adding Stitches for Yoke:

Move 4 markers so that they are in the first and last stitch of each sleeve. There are 56-58-
62-60-64 stitches between the markers for each sleeve. In the next round, add 8 stitches by
adding one stitch before and after each of the 4 markers. We are now adding stitches for
the front, back and sleeves. The increased s tches are worked in stocking s tch.

BEFORE MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from back to front and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the front of the stitch.

Knit the marker stitch.

AFTER MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from front to back and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the back of the stitch.

Add the stitches a total of 4-5-6-10-11 times every 2 rounds = 304-320-352-388-412

stitches.

When all the increases are finished, the total length of piece is approximately 29-31-33-35-
37 cm. If the piece is shorter than this, con nue working without further increases, to the
correct length.
5. Neck

Using 4.5mm circular needles, cast on 92-96-100-108-112 stitches. Place marker at the
beginning of the round. Work in 1x1 ribbing (1 knit through the back loop,1 purl) in the
round for 2cm. When the rib is finished, knit 1 round where you increase 16-12-20-20-24
evenly spaced stitches = 108-108-120-128-136 stitches. To make the increases, make a yarn
over between two stitches. Work 1 round in stockinette stitch, knit the yarn overs twisted to
avoid holes.

6. Adding saddle shoulder stitches:

Insert 4 more markers as described below. To avoid mistakes, the markers should be a
different color than the marker at the beginning of the round.

Place 4 markers (without working a round!) as follows:

Marker 1: count 19-19-20-22-22 stitches (= half of back), place marker before the next stitch.

Marker 2: count 16-16-20-20-24 stitches from Marker 1 (= arm), place marker before the
next stitch.

Marker 3: count 38-38-40-44-44 stitches from Marker 2 (= front), place marker before the
next stitch.

Marker 4: count 16-16-20-20-24 stitches from Marker 3 (= arm), place marker before the
next stitch. There are 19-19-20-22-22 stitches left for the other half of the back after Marker
4.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch and at the same time add stitches as follows: Add
stitches only on the front and the back, not on the sleeves. The number of sleeve stitches
remains the same. Add stitches BEFORE markers 1 and 3 and AFTER markers 2 and 4 as
follows:

BEFORE MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from back to front and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the front of the stitch.

AFTER MARKER: Using the left needle, pick up the thread connecting 2 stitches from the
previous round from front to back and knit this stitch on the right side, inserting the needle
from the back of the stitch.

The increased stitches are worked in stocking stitch. Repeat adding stitches for a total of 20-
21-24-24-26 times on each round. 78-80-88-92-96 stitches for the front and back, 16-16-20-
20-24 stitches for each sleeve.
9. Separation for Front, Back, and Sleeves:

Now divide the work for the back/front and sleeves as follows:

Knit the first 42-45-49-54-59 stitches (= half of the back), place the next 68-70-78-86-88
s tches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-12 stitches under the sleeve, knit 84-
90-98-108-118 stitches for the front, place the next 68-70-78-86-88 s tches on a thread for
the sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-12 12 stitches under the sleeve, knit the last 42-45-49-54-59
stitches (= half of the back).

10. Back and Front:

On the needles we have 184-200-216-236-260 stitches. Con nue with stocking s tch in the
round until the total length of the work is 52-53-54-56-58 cm. Work in (1 knit through the
back loop,1 purl) in the round for 2 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl.

11. Sleeves

Place the 68-70-78-86-88 s tches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short
circular needles/double pointed needles and pick up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-10-10-12
s tches cast on under the sleeve = 76-80-88-96-100 stitches. Place a marker in the middle of
the new s tches under the sleeve. This will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Work
stocking s tch in the round.

When the length of the sleeve from the division of the work is 3 cm, close 1 s tch on each
side of the marker: work un l there are 2 s tches le before the marker, slip 1 s tch as if to
knit, knit 1 s tch pass the slipped s tch over the kni ed s tch, knit 2 s tches together.
Repeat closing s tches a total of 5-5-8-10-11 mes every 6-5-3-2-2 cm = 66-70-72-76-78
s tches.

Continue with stocking stitch in the round until the length of the sleeve from the division of
the work is 34-32-31-30-28 cm. Work in ribbing (1 knit through the back loop,1 purl) in the
round for 2 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl.

Make the second sleeve in the same way.
