REPAY TO GOD WHAT BELONGS TO GOD

Week after week, we are offered a choice to declare to others and to our God whom we belong tothe small god of money and possessions, or the great God whom Jesus called Abba (Daddy or Papa in Aramaic). Some of us drop into the basket what we think is good enough, or what we will never miss, or whatever is in our pocket. How about a different approach? For every financial blessing first give thanks, whether for a paycheck, an allowance, investment interest, bonus, or even a lottery win. Choose a portion and share it with others: half to the Church, and half to good cause you favor. In gratitude for Gods overwhelming love, we give these first fruits rather than whats left over after weve done what we want. Modern research shows that people who give generously tend to live happier and longer lives. So become a grateful giver and a true steward of Gods constant blessings.

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Dear Friends in Christ, As we continue our celebration of Respect life month and month of the rosary, the people of God, reflect on the preciousness of all life, from womb to tomb. Mary , in Her love for God, said yes to the Archangel,(messenger of God) to be the mother of Jesus the Giver of All Life. As a family, let us take time before mass to pray the mysteries of the rosary, in preparation for the Mass. We , as Catholics , bring our prayers to Marythat we also may be free from sin and willing to take on what God asks of us. We are sometimes asked to do , what the Father asks of usto protect the child in the womb, the children around us, at home, at Church and in the neighborhoods. The staff and our deacons continue to pray for each and everyone of you. We strive to do our best in the parish , as we follow through, with what Bishop Conlon asks of his pastors and staff, in our service, to the family of Christ the King. Blessed Mother is always at our side helping us, to do our best! In particular, I would like to thank the St. Vincent De Paul Pantry Team, Knights of Columbus, Council of Catholic Women and PADS service Team for the Poor, for their commitment to the needy, homeless and hungry. May our Lady always bring these dedicated parishioners, among many, who keep our parish alive and well, even closer to Her Son Jesus. The staff would like to thank our parishioners and visitors who are dedicated to weekly and daily mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Together, let us all thank God, for the many blessings and graces, we have received! Let us give back to God for all that He has given to us.-through our time, talent and treasure . Please pray for me as I pray for you at Mass+ In Christ, your Pastor, Fr. Jarosz

Adoration: Reflections of A Deacon

Who was the first living tabernacle of our Lord? Mary of Coarse, she carried our precious Lord in her womb for nine months. But who also can become the tabernacle of our Lord Jesus Christ? You. Please consider this the next time you receive Communion. You become a tabernacle for the Lord as you are walking back to your pew. What a glorious thought! How often do we wish to be in the Real Presence of the Lord? Always. Consider all the times of tremendous need, when you prayed for the intersession of our Blessed Mother, or called upon the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary and Christ are always there for you in times of need. But, there are other times, those of thanks, contemplation, and quite love, when we seldom consider that our Lord is so close at hand. Consider Adoration. Through our knowledge of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, dont you find it hard to understand why more people do not take the opportunity to sit quietly with the Lord in prayer? Sometimes it is enough just to sit and look at the Lord and have Him Look back at us. We have the opportunity to place our cares in his hands. Adoration of our beautiful Sacrament of the Eucharist is for all, not just Catholics, there is no charge, and this Communion with Christ in our presence is priceless. Sit, Pray, think, be, use this hour to organize and gather your thoughts of the day. Where else can you find this type of quite? Adoration is every Thursday starting after morning Mass and ending with Holy Hour and Benediction at 7:00 p.m. The first Thursday is 24 hour. Come, side, and pray, for one hour at least with our precious Lord Jesus Christ. Deacon Peter Robinson

Tickets can be purchased in advance, for a $1.00 savings after all of the masses the weekend of October 22 & 23. Tickets purchased in advance are $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors and $4.00 for children under 12. Families of 2 adults and 2 or more children can purchase a family ticket for $20.00. Tickets are also available at the door. Bring your appetites to this annual fall event. It is a great opportunity to not have to cook, and enjoy a good meal with family, friends and fellow parishioners.

Did 10 years go by so quickly, or not? A number of people have asked the question on the occasion of my 10th anniversary. I think the answer depends on what I focus. When I focus on service to you in the parish and beyond, times seems to go quickly. I thoroughly enjoy being of service to others, whether it be children or senior citizens, at joyful times or sad occasions, in Sacramental preparation and the celebration thereof. The tenth anniversary was a very joyous occasion. With Father Peters support, classmates and their spouses gathered for the occasion at Christ the King on September 11, 3 days after our actual anniversary. There was a lot to remember that day: the tragedy of 9/11; the memories of one spouse and three classmates, including Deacon Fred Francl, who have passed away; the work of four years of study and preparation; other joyful occasions when we have gathered. I especially thank all who wished me well, gave me cards, and provided an occasion to gather after 10AM Mass on September 25th.

October 19, 2011 Week 2: Happy Are We- The Teachings of Jesus The revelation of Jesus as God is accompanied by a stunning invitation to a unique new way of life, explained in the teachings of Jesus. To every generation, the words of Jesus have proven fascinating, sometimes confounding, deeply transformative, and always unforgettable. October 26, 2011 The Ineffable Mystery of GodThat Than Which Nothing Greater Can Be Thought Father Barron considers St. Anslems description of God as that than which nothing greater can be thought and explains St. Thomas Aquinas arguments which support the claim that God truly exists. He also speaks about the nature of God, as well as the challenging question of evil and the existence of God. This lesson explores the Churchs conviction that life here and now is preparation for an extraordinary world that is yet to come-a supernatural destiny. Father Barron presents the Catholic version death, judgment, heaven, hell and purgatory. Continues through January Week 3:

In a Biblical Walk Through the Mass, Dr. Sri talks us on a unique tour of the Liturgy. Based on the revised translation of the Mass that goes into effect Advent 2011, this bible study explores the Biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience in the Liturgy and explains their profound significance. Life Matters: Embryo Research

The Nuremberg Code (1947) was prompted by the horrific and often deadly experimentation on human beings in Nazi concentration camps that came to light during the Doctors Trials before the Nuremberg Military Tribunals. The main principles of the Nuremberg Code require that experiments involving human subjects cause no unnecessary risk, be undertaken with the full and informed consent of the subjects, and must never knowingly cause serious injury or death. Nazi doctors were not the first, nor the last, to perform inhumane and sometimes disabling research on unsuspecting human subjects living in poverty, in prisons, mental health institutions, and orphanages. The Tuskegee syphilis experiments, the Stateville Penitentiary Malaria Study, and the Willowbrook (Long Island) State School experimentsin which children with mental disabilities were intentionally infected with viral hepatitisare just a few examples of cases in which doctors put the pursuit of knowledge and cures ahead of the lives and well-being of individual human beings. The Nuremberg Code inspired other declarations of medical and research ethics. In 1948, the World Medical Association approved a statement addressing the ethics of physicians, the Declaration of Geneva. As originally adopted, it read in part: I will maintain the utmost respect for human life, from the time of conception; even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity.1 The World Medical Associations Declaration of Helsinki on medical research ethics, first approved in 1964, states in part: In medical research involving human subjects, the well-being of the individual research subject must take precedence over all other interests (no. 6) and It is the duty of physicians who participate in medical research to protect the life, health, dignity, [and] integrity of research subjects (no. 11).2 The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees guidelines for the protection of human subjects of research, based on HHSs Belmont Report (1978)3 and subsequent federal regulations. Theprinciples emphasize respect for the human subject, beneficence (do no harm, that is, minimizing risks to subjects), and justice (research that is reasonable, nonexploitative, and conducted fairly to all participants). Fourteen other federal departments and agencies have since joined HHS in adopting a uniform set of Common Rules for the protection of human subjects in research. These ethical principles are clear, and they are consistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church: The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception; and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life (Donum Vitae I, 1).4 These principles ought to apply with equal force to research using human embryos. At least with respect to federallyfunded research, that is what Congress determined in 1995 and each subsequent year through annual appropriations bills. Congress bans the federal funding of research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death greater than that allowed for research on fetuses in utero. This has not, however, prevented privately-funded research in which human embryos are destroyed (although some states have banned such research by law), nor has it prevented the current Administration from defying the intent of the law by proposing to fund such research after the human embryos have been killed for their stem cells. Today, many people who support the protection of vulnerable adults and children, and even animals, have a moral blind spot concerning research in which human embryos are subjected to grave risks or destroyed. When it comes to human embryos, they are apparently willing to toss out many fundamental moral convictions of civilized societies: that one may not commit evil acts to achieve even a worthy goal (the end does not justify the means); that the powerful in society have a duty to protect the weak; and that there are moral limits to what science and government can demand regarding voiceless, helpless human lives being used for the benefit of others. The case for experimentation on human embryos may be motivated by a sincere concern to develop new therapies and cures for diseases from which many people suffer. In the view of one commentator, society has come to view the goal of restoring health and relieving the suffering of individuals with grave illnesses as so important that it trumps our moral impulse to respect all human life. This is tragically misguided. No human person should be used and destroyed to benefit another, no matter how many lives might be saved. Respecting the dignity of every human being means never taking innocent human life, no matter how well intentioned the effort to cure disease might be. The human person can never be used as a means to an end because we are created equal, and no one has greater or lesser moral worth than another.
