Thacher
Basketball is a world renowned sport, that for a lot of people is their pride and joy, it is
where they can find happiness even when life is upside down. While I never had that relationship
with the sport, I certainly did have quite the affection for it. It dorve me to become better, not just
a better player but a better person. It also gave me the simple opportunity to play a game with my
friends that we all enjoyed for fun. Getting out of class early was also a great perk as well, haha.
You would get to experience all that in these tournaments which were wrapped into several days
of competition. During my time at Malibu we never had the greatest experience while at
tournaments, junior year we had opportunities to bring back tournaments trophies and glory but
fell short and I didn’t get that much playing time. Senior year we intended to change that and
make most of the opportunity when it presented itself. The Thacher tournament was one example
of not making the most of the oppotuniets the previous year. It isn’t that fun when you lose to a
team you are supposed to beat and your coach tells you of his disappointment. That was in the
back of the mind of everyone on the team that played last year. To rectify last year and we started
really well, my teammate drilled 11 3-pointers on route to a blowout victory. Next game we had
a little adversity however we ame out on top. The last game was special, it was against the host
school Thacher. They were a solid team, it was neck and neck back and forth for pretty much the
entire game. However towards the end we managed to gain momentum and get crucial stops
when we needed to. When the buzzer sounded I lept for joy, we had accomplished our goal and
won the tournament championship. The ride home we sang, laughed and stayed in the moment,
we would never have another one like it, so we couldn’t take it for granted. Luckily the
tournament trophy will always be there as a reminder.
The famed teams itself lifting the plaque and looking good doing, if I do say so myself.
