MEASUREMENTS Width: 25.5 cm /10" Length: 16.5 cm / 6.5" (not including ears and tassels) PATTERN INFORMATION Pip the alpaca hat is a cozy, top down hat made with ear flaps for extra warmth. Pattern pieces are created to make the face and characteristics of Pip, the alpaca! © CRAFTYSTITCH CREATIONS Pattern INFO AND TIPS The hat is made holding two strands of Divina yarn together. The body of the hat is worked in turned rounds. Ch 1 and ch 2 do not count as a stitch, ‘Sedge stitch: Work one single crochet st and one double crochet st into the same st. BODY With Divina yarn: Round 1: Ch 2, sedge st five times into second ch from hook. SI st to top of first st of row. Pull the yarn tail to cinch hole closed. Turn. (10) Round 2: Ch 1, sedge st in each st around, SI st to top of first st of row. Turn. (20 sts) Round 3: Ch 1, *sedge st in 2 sts, sk next st*, repeat from * to * until last 2 sts of round, sedge st in last 2 sts. SI st to top of first st of row. Turn. (28 sts) Round 4: Ch 1, *sedge st, skip next st*, repeat from * to * to end of round. SIst to top of first st of row. Turn, (28 sts) Round 5: Ch 1, *sedge st in 2 sts, sk next st*, repeat from * to * until last st of round, sedge st in last st. SI st to top of first st of row. Turn. (38 sts) Round 6: Repeat round 4, (38 sts) Round 7: Repeat round 3. (52 sts) Circle should measure 6” at this point. Note: From here, be sure to work all sedge stitches into sc sts of round below. Round 8-17: Repeat round 4, Do not tie off. Continue to Ear Flaps. Ear Flap 1: Row 1: Ch 2, *sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * four more times. Turn. (10 sts) Row 2: Ch 2, skip first st, *sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, sl st into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (8 sts) Row 3: Ch 2, skip first st, *sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * 2 more times, sl st into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (6 sts) Row 4: Ch 2, skip first st, *sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * once more, sist into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (4 sts) Tie off. #} CRAFTYSTITCH CREATIONS Ear Flap 2: Determine the back of the hat. Attach the yarn 5 sedge stitches from the base of the last ear flap. Row 1: Ch 2, *sedge st, sk next st®, repeat from * to * four more times. Turn, (10 sts) Row 2: Ch 2, skip first st, “sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, sI st into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (8 sts) Row 3: Ch 2, skip first st, #sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * 2 more times, s! st into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (6 sts) Row 4: Ch 2, skip first st, “sedge st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * once more, s!st into top of turning ch of previous row. Turn. (4 sts) Do not tie off. From here, sc evenly around the entire edge of the hat. Tie off. © CRAFTYSTITCH CREATIONS MOUTH PIECE Note: Rounds of the mouth are worked continuously. Place a stitch marker in the first st of the round to mark the beginning of each round. Round 1: Ch 2, sc 8 times into first ch. Pull the yarn tail to the cinch hole closed. (8 sts) Round 2; 2 sc in each st around, (16 sts) Round 3: *sc, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * around. (24 sts) Round 4: *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * around. (32 sts) Round 5-6: sc in each st around, Atthe end of round 6, s! st into next st, tie off leaving a long tail for sewing. With the Amigo yarn, stitch a mouth and nose to the Mouth piece, EAR PIECES Make 4, (two per ear). With Divina yarn. Row 1: Ch 12, sedge in second ch from hook, *sk next st, sedge st*, repeat from * to * to end of row, sc in the same st, sedge st again in the same last ch, rotate the piece and repeat from * to * down the other side of the ch. Turn. (25 sts) Row 2: Ch 2, *Sk st, sedge st*, repeat from # to * five more times, work 2 sedge sts into next st, repeat from * to * to the end of the row. Turn. (28 sts) Row 3: Ch 2, *sk st, sedge st, repeat from * to * to the end of the row. (28 sts) Lay two ears on top of one another. Stitch around the outer edge of the ear. Repeat for the other ear. “e} CRAFTYSTITCH CREATIONS EYE PIECES ‘Switch to 3.75 mm hook, and Amigo yarn. Note: Rounds of eyes are worked continuously. Place a stitch marker in the first st of round to keep the start of each round. Make 2. Round 1: Ch 2, sc 8 times into first ch. Pull the yarn tail to the cinch hole closed. (8 sts) Round 2: 2 sc in each st around, (16 sts) Round 3: *sc, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * around. (24 sts) Round 4: *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * around. (32 sts) At the end of round 4, sist into next st, tie off leaving a long tail for sewing. With the white yarn, stitch a small highlight stitch onto the eye, and knot the yarn at the back to secure, Trim the ends. TASSELS Make 2. Cut 20 strands of yarn 6" long. Tie a piece of yarn 4” long around the middle of the yarns and knot it tightly. Fold the yarns down and with another 4” piece of yarn, wrap around all of the yarns, near the top, and knot it tightly. Trim the yarns to finish the tassel. © CRAFTYSTITCH CREATIONS ASSEMBLY Stitch the Mouth piece to the front of the hat, stuffing it slightly with fiber fill or yarn scraps. Place the eyes in position and stitch them in place, Position the ears to the top of the hat. Stitch the bottom of each ear to the hat. Before tying off yarn, | find it helpful to add a few extra stitches about half an inch up the ears to keep them from flopping back when worn. Tie the tassels to each ear flap. Weave in all ends. Steam block as desired, Enjoy!
