Oftentimes times management and discipline get confused with one another, but only one

is used to create an effective learning environment. The classroom should be a space where

students can excel due to their teacher's use of effective strategies based on both the curriculum

and the utilization of student's abilities. To create this type of environment it is important to set

clear boundaries and expectations for students as soon as possible. By taking these steps the

classroom becomes a community in which respect coexists with safety.

Effective teachers make use of various teaching strategies to get points across to students

and ensure their understanding of topics. By adapting the curriculum to students’ interests and

strengths lessons become more engaging. When engagement increases teachers can be sure that

students are developing a genuine understanding of ideas as it relates to them. To further this

understanding it is important to incorporate knowledge of students' differences to create an

equitable learning environment. The goal of the classroom is to create an environment in which

students engage in active learning and enthusiastic participation. Compromise with students and

modify instruction as needed to have the best effect for students. It is the teachers' job to create

this environment using strategies that encourage student progression such as positive

reinforcement. As well as the use of differentiated instruction and assessment to allow all

students to have the opportunity to show what they know in a way that fits them.

An important aspect of classroom management is setting clear expectations about both

the student and teacher's role in the classroom. Early on in the school year procedures should be

introduced so that there is time to ensure an understanding of how the classroom functions and

why it functions that way. It is important to be consistent with these routines and procedures so

they can be truly effective. When classroom management is clearly understood it is easier to

focus on student achievement and assist in the process in any way. This is why you should take

time to model classroom management procedures and provide students with an opportunity to

model behaviors. Along with clear expectations clear goals should be set for students about

content, behavior, and class format. Such as the assignment of classroom roles and

responsibilities of each role. To encourage these behaviors instruction should only begin when

students demonstrate that they are prepared to learn.

It is also necessary to build a sense of community within the classroom so students feel

safe and respect the classroom environment. Collaborating with students to create the guidelines

for appropriate behavior guarantees that students will have a clear understanding of how the

classroom community works for them. Educators should keep many things in mind to make sure

the classroom is a safe space for everyone. You must be alert and aware to all activity occurring

in the classroom in case a situation comes up. If something does come up it must be dealt with

immediately and appropriately. Encourage self-advocating by listening to the involved students

perspectives without the involvement of the rest of the class. Validate students feelings and

handle the situation accordingly using social emotional learning techniques to deescalatee the

situation. Having this sense of community will provide students some much needed comfort as

they grow together over the school year.
