PRIMARY CHORDS
Chord is the combination of 2 or more notes.
Types of chords are Primary Chords and secondary chords (minor keys).
The primary chords are the three simplest form of chords that we can use smoothly to accompany our
songs.
Primary chords consist of chord I,IV and V.
Looking at the major scale degrees, D R M F S L T D, the degrees are represented with numbers or
Roman numerals. Check the example below for clarity. Our Example will be in Major keys.
Example: Using the Key of C major
Solfa note of a major scale: D R M F S L T
Degree : I II III IV V VI VII
Alphabet representing the notes in the key : C D E F G A B
In finding the primary Chords in the above example; we have to look out for the I, IV and V which are the
C, F and G. In this light, the C, F and G (d, f and s) is our Primary chord in the Key of C major.
