ESSAY

Lyceum International School, a school that has proved itself an old head on young shoulders and I am proud to be a part of it. Lyceum has brought me up and helped me grow into an all-round individual. Our motto, Know Thyself has helped me understand who I am and why I am here. Thus, I feel obligated to give to my school what it has given me. Who is a prefect? A prefect in my eyes is one who is reliable, responsible and can take leadership. He is one who can be an example to his peers and juniors. He should be admired and respected by all. Do I have these qualities? I believe I do. I am confident, calm but can take control when necessary. I also believe that I can relate and be understanding of peers with different personalities, morasl, strengths and from different backgrounds. Thus I will be able to bring out the best in them. I believe I am also responsible, diligent, forward thinking, hardworking and ready to represent the school at a given time. Thus, I am reliable, honest and mature enough for the role of a prefect. In grade eight I was appointed a junior prefect and I believe that this has given me an insight to the role of a prefect. I can use this experience to take lead roles in the organization of events such as concerts and inter-house championships. At present I do netball, soccer and athletics which have taught me invaluable teamwork and leadership skills. They have taught me how to be a part of a team, a part of something bigger. Not only that they taught me how to face challenges and come out either as a winner or a good sport. I have also taken part in inter house basketball and badminton tournaments. Sports have made me a confident, active person, always up for a challenge and ready to be part of a team. I have also given a few speeches in assembly and can confidently speak to a large audience, this along with my ability to write have made me an excellent communicator who is taken seriously and well respected. It will help me act as a link between the school management and the students. Lyceum strives for high standards in academics, sports, discipline and has a high reputation in the country. I will act as a role model to other students at all times in this regard. As a prefect I will help in shaping the positive image of our school thus making it a school that is better than the best. Finally I will be more than happy to help the staff and pupils and it will be my way of giving something back. I am all set to take the responsibility and offer my services to the school with pride and rewards that I will treasure for life. I also believe that I would thrive in a position that will both challenge and enrich me and I request you to offer me the opportunity of becoming a prefect.
