 I. LEARNING COMPETENCY:
Proper ways of propagating trees and fruit bearing trees (budding, marcotting, grafting)
         (TLE6AG-Oc-3)
         Objectives:
            1. Identify ways of propagating trees and fruit bearing trees (budding, marcotting, grafting)
            2. Demonstrate ways of propagating trees and fruit bearing trees.
            3. Handle the tools with care.
II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT:
The science of propagating plants is called horticulture. It covers the art of flowering and
fruiting of plant and trees. It is different from agriculture since the latter covers a wider range of
         plants.
Sexual propagation is the process of producing a new plant usually from the union of cells
from different parent plants. It is the common method of plant propagation.
Plants multiply naturally in different ways, without the aid of sexual organs of the plants is called
asexual reproduction there are also scientific method or artificial method of propagating like
         marcotting, budding and grafting.
Plant propagating is a method of reproducing, increasing or multiplying plant species.
Budding- it is a form of grafting where a bud (scion) is inserted into a bark of a well-
selected branch. The bud grows and becomes a new plant. Splicing the branch will hold
the bud in place. A cut is made to enable nourishment to flow to the bad.
Marcotting- It is similar to cutting except that the branch is not cut off. It allows the root
to come out while still attached to the mother plant. When roots are fully developed, the
                  branch is cut off.
Rooting is done by removing the bark around the branch of the plant with a knife
and bound with moist soil. A sack or coconut husk is used to hold the soil in place.
Lanzones and chicos are successfully propagated this way. Marcotting is usually done
              during the rainy season.
Grafting- A plant propagation method that involves inserting a scion into a stock so that
they will form a union and grow together.
