Thought for meditation: The distinction is made between what is Gods and what is Caesars. The decision remains, who shall be served? If it is God, then Gods will shall be done. If it is Caesar, then Caesar shall reign. Idolatry occurs when the distinction is blurred. When put to the test, Jesus simply asks the question: To whom will allegiance be given?

PRELUDE Morning Has Broken/O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing and Maury A. Castro, piano Arr. Weekley and Arganbright Words of Welcome and Signing of Friendship Pads Florence Parmelee

Please add your name to the pad you will find at the end of each pew and pass it along your row so that we can know each other by name.

*Call to Worship Each morning, God's grace awakens us, each evening, God's peace cradles us. Compassion is our constant companion, as we go through work, school, the day. In every moment, God is present with us; God whispers words which can change our lives. Justice is our faithful teacher, pointing to where we can carry out fairness. When we find ourselves groping in the shadows, God's light will provide a way home. We turn the corner, and hope is waiting for us; we return home, and find a feast prepared. *Prayer of the Day Steadfast Hope: when we want to make all the rules so we can win every game, you call us to your side, put your arm around us and whisper, 'play fair!' When we tremble in fear, worried that our lives are about to crash to the bottom, you place us in the hollow of your heart, and give us safety. Word of Joy: when we would follow those who pretend to be our saviors to achieve their own ends, you remind us that we have been chosen

to be examples of faith to others. When we would fill our pockets with the treasures of temptation, you ask us to empty them, so we can become servants of hope. Crafter of Faith: when others judge us on our backgrounds, education, looks, you teach us how to treat all people as equal, to welcome each person as our sister or brother. When we wonder how our needs, our hopes, our lives will be made known to God, you mention us, by name, in all your prayers. Amen *Hymn Let All Creation Bless the Lord Verse 1: All Verse 2: Treble Voices (generally women and children) Verse 3: All

Call to Reconciliation and Confession We know, despite our sincere efforts to live in God's way, that all too easily we slip off the path to the kingdom. Trusting that God will answer our prayers and forgive us, let us confess our sins, as we pray together, Great Lover of Justice, hear our prayers: called to treat all people equally, we take sides and pick favorites; chosen to be your children, we arrogantly assume others are not so honored; challenged to be examples of faith, we reveal our worst natures to our families and friends. Forgive us, Giver of Rest. Enable us to stop putting you to the test, so we can open our hypocritical hearts to your healing touch of compassion and hope. As Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, has given all for us, may we give ourselves to you - confidently, completely, faithfully.

Silence is kept for personal reflection or prayer

Assurance of Pardon Hear the good news: the One who created goodness and beauty is also the One who shows no partiality, but offers grace and peace to all. God has heard our prayers and done the very thing we asked - forgiven us, healed us, restored us. Thanks be to God. Amen. (c) 2011 Thom M. Shuman Thanks be to God; in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! *Response Sing the Faith #2151 Im so Glad Jesus Lifted Me

*Peace Since God has forgiven us in Jesus Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you. Worshippers are invited to greet one another with the words, The peace of Christ be with you.

Anthem Immortal, Invisible Arr. Eric Thiman Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice like mountains high soaring above thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee. Great Father of glory, pure Mother of light, thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render: O help us to see tis only the splendour of light hideth Thee. Amen. Psalm 99 Text by: Helen L. Wright

Music by: Hal H. Hopson

The Lord reigns; let the people tremble! God is throned on the cherubim; let the earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion, God is high above the nations. (R) May they praise your great and holy name! You are the holy one! Great judge, you love hat is right, and have established justice in Jacob. (R) Glorify the Lord our God; bow down before the throne; bow down and worship God. You are the holy one. (R) Moses and Aaron among the priests, Samuel among those who called on God, all these cried to the Lord; God heard them and answered them. (R) In the pillar of cloud God spoke; they did Gods will and kept the law. O Lord, you answered them; you punished their sings, but you forgave them. (R) Glorify the Lord our God; bow down at the holy hill. Bow down and worship God; the Lord our God is the holy one. (R) Scripture Lessons Lesson from the Gospel Lesson from the Old Testament

Question 10. Do you make this confession only as an individual? No. With the apostles, prophets and martyrs, with all those through the ages who have loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and with all who strive to serve him on earth here and now, I confess my faith in the God of loving power and powerful love.
Heb. 12:1 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us." Rom. 1:12 "So that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine."

Question 11. When the creed speaks of "God the Father," does it mean that God is male? No. Only creatures having bodies can be either male or female. But God has no body, since by nature God is Spirit. Holy Scripture reveals God as a living God beyond all sexual distinctions. Scripture uses diverse images for God, female as well as male. We read, for example, that God

will no more forget us than a woman can forget her nursing child (Is. 49:15). "'As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you,' says the Lord" (Is. 66:13).
Is. 49:15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you." Is. 66:13 "As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Matt. 23:37 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!"

Question 12. Why then does the creed speak of God the Father? First, because God is identified in the New Testament as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Second, because Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of this Father. Third, because when we are joined to Christ through faith, we are adopted as sons and daughters into the relationship he enjoys with his Father.
Rom. 1:7 "To all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." John 14:9-10 "Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works." John 17:24 "Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world." John 1:12 "To all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God." Gal. 4:6 "Because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!'"
