Types of ROM
It is programmed during the
ROM READ ONLY MEMORY manufacturing process . The
information once written on it
cannot be changed .
It is similar to ROM . The only
PROM PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY difference is that it is
MEMORY manufactured as a blank chip .
User can get a blank PROM
chip and program it using a
PROM programmer or PROM
burner .But once written , it
cannot be erased or rewritten.
It has an additional feature
EPROM ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE where data once written can
ROM be erased or re-written by
exposing to strong UV light. It
is time consuming.
Can be independently read ,
EEPROM ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE erased and re-written
PROM electronically ; no need of UV
light.
