Digital Self
The digital self is our extended self in a
digital world.
Social media
Social media refers to websites and applications that
enable users to create and share content, as well as
interact with others online. These platforms facilitate
various forms of communication, such as text, images,
videos, and links, allowing people to connect, share
information, and engage in discussions with a wide
audience. Common examples of social media platforms
include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, among
many others. Social media has become a significant part
of modern communication and plays a role in personal,
professional, and societal interactions.
Cyberspace
Cyberspace is a term that refers to the interconnected
virtual environment created by computer networks,
including the internet, where digital information is
transmitted, stored, and accessed.
The device we have, the media that we consume, the
people we follow, and how we portray ourselves online
are all part of our digital self.
Cyberspace
The information we have online including unintentional left data,
know as a data shadow serve as our digital identity.
Digital self is like an RPG ( Role playing Games) Where you get to
create a avatar and use characters as an expression of who you
are, what you want other to perceive, and how you want to portray
yourself.
Online disembodiment
Online disembodiment refers to the
phenomenon where individuals interact
with others on the internet without their
physical presence being a factor. In online
communication, people are often judged
based on their words and actions rather
than physical appearance.
Donald Winnicott
Donald Winnicott proposed a theory of self
that posited that there is a True self and
False self.
True self
The True Self represents an individual's
authentic and spontaneous feelings, desires,
and emotions. It is a core aspect of one's
identity and is closely tied to one's
innermost, genuine experiences.
False Self
False Self is a protective facade or persona
that individuals develop, often in response to
external expectations or pressures. The
False Self serves as a social mask, allowing
individuals to conform to societal norms and
expectations while hiding their True Self. It
can develop in early childhood as a coping
mechanism to navigate relationships and
adapt to the environment.
Online disinhibitation
refers to the lowering of the social
restriction and inhibition in an
online environment.
Binign inhibition
In when an individual uses an persona
online that seeks to express their full
potential. An attempt to understand and
explore oneself through works problems.
And find new way of being.
Toxic Inhibition
Using a persona that engages in toxic
behaviors or activities online. This
includes ruse language, threats. And
visiting places of pornography, crime,
and violence on the internet that a
person might not go to in real.

actions to gain other's attention, to
be liked by others.

ONESELF TO HAVE MORAL WORTHINESS
-It is a self-presentation strategy
where individuals project themselves
an image of integrity or moral
worthiness.
INTIMIDATION
- It is presenting oneself as a scary or
intimidating.
SUPPLICATION
- Supplication is an act of expressing oneself
but only sharing misfortunes or life misery to
depict oneself as weak, needy, or dependent
on others. Some use this purposely to gain
sympathy from others.
