What is an adjective?
An adjective describes a noun or pronoun.

Examples:
• The tall man walked down the street.

forms
1. Descriptive Adjectives

Descriptive Adjective
Descriptive Adjectives are used to show or
describe the qualities of a noun or pronoun in a
sentence.

• Example:
1. He bought an expensive silver car.
2. Give me that red big story book.
Demonstrative Adjectives
Demonstrative adjectives demonstrate things,
people, or animals.

This, these, that, those are demonstrative


adjectives
Examples: These cookies are very delicious
Distributive Adjective
Distributive Adjectives point out the persons or
things named collectively that connect to a noun
or pronoun in a sentence

Each, every, neither, either, none, any, and


both” are distributive Adjectives
Example: 1. Both of my friends are college
graduates.
2. Each of us drink about 2 liters of water
3. Either you buy, or I buy the drink
Interrogative Adjective
Interrogative adjectives are used to modifies
noun or pronoun by asking a question.

It uses which, what, and whose

• What town did you move to?


• Whose car keys are these?
Comparative Adjectives
• Comparative adjectives compare two nouns.

Examples:
Noun #1 Noun #2

1. Bill is taller than Joe.


2. Compared to zebras, horses are larger,
gentler, and friendlier.
Numeral Adjective
• A numeral adjective determines about the
number of nouns present in any sentence.(shows the
exact number of persons or things)

1. Definite Numeral Adjectives are:


Cardinal numbers (one, two, third, … and
Ordinal numbers (first, second, third, …)
Ex: Bill will buy seven pens/She was first girl to be in
the queue.

2. Indefinite Numeral Adjectives are:


(many, few, some, several, any, all, enough)
Ex: Many tourists visit Thailand/He was silent for a few seconds.
Superlative Adjectives
• Superlative adjectives are used when comparing
three or more nouns to the highest degree.

Examples:
1. Bears are hungriest when waking up from
hibernation.
2. Becky is the smartest student in the class.
3. Puppies are the cutest and most adorable animals.
Quantitative Adjective
The quantitative adjective is used to explain the
noun, person, or thing and its quantity in the
sentence(how much amount rather than the exact number).
Little, more, much, few, all, large, small, most,
etc.
Example:
1. There was little milk at the bottom of the jug
2. He has completed most of the work
3. I don’t have much time; I’ve to leave early.
Proper Adjective

• Proper Adjective indicates an appropriate


person, thing, or place. What makes it unique
is that they are formed from proper nouns.
• They are based on names and therefore need
to be capitalized

1. Do you enjoy Spanish food?


2. You must try the Chinese dumplings.
Possessive Adjective
• A Possessive adjective shows the possession of
the noun to a person or people in a sentence.
• First-person: I, my, us
• Second-person: you, yours
• Third-person: he, she, his, her, its, their, them

Example:
1. You broke my glasses.
2. Few students from course 151 did not submit
their assignments.
Adjective forms
There are three forms or degrees of adjectives

1.Positive degree: Big, Good, Tall, Bad, Much


2.Comparative degree: bigger, better, taller,
worse, more
3.Superlative degree: biggest, best, tallest,
worst, most
