Why Was Surah Al-Kawthar Revealed (Asbab
al-Nuzul)?
Surah Al-Kawthar was revealed in response to polytheists or Jews. ‘Al
Abtar’ linguistically means cut-off and contextually means disunited or
childless (without offspring), as we will further discuss in Surah Al-
Kawthar Tafseer.
It was narrated that one of the Meccan polytheists (Abu-Jahl, Abu-
Lahab, or Al-Aas Ibn-Wael) called The Prophet (PBUH) by ‘al-abtar’,
meaning he is childless. It was when the son of The Prophet (PBUH)
died.
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon
him, said, “A chapter was just revealed to me.” The Prophet recited, “In the name
of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Verily, We have given you the Abundance,”
(108:1) until he finished it. The Prophet said, “Do you know what is the
Abundance?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Prophet said,
“Verily, it is a river that my Lord Almighty has promised me in Paradise.”

Is lake kauthar and hauz-e-Kauthar same?
Differences between the Ḥaud and Kawthar
1.The Kawthar is a flowing river in Paradise, whereas the Ḥaud will be a pond on Earth.
2.Water will be channeled from the Kawthar to the Ḥaud.
3.The Kawthar is currently present in Paradise, whereas the Ḥaud will emerge upon the Earth on the Day of
Resurrection.
4.The Kawthar is bigger than the Ḥaud, as water will be poured from it to the Ḥaud.
Similarities between the Haudh and Kawthar
1. They are both for the Prophet ﷺand his followers from his Ummah.
2. The water of both the Kawthar and Ḥaud is the same, from Paradise, as the water of the Ḥaud is
channelled from the Kawthar,
DETAILS OF HAUS-E-KAUSAR
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Al-Kawthar is a river in Paradise. Its
banks are made of gold and its bed is of pearls and rubies…”
Al-Tirmidhi (3284) hasan saheeh
One who will drink from Haus-e-Kausar will never get
thirsty
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d ra: I heard the Prophet ﷺsaying, "I am your predecessor
at the Lake-Fount (Kauthar), and whoever will come to it, will drink from it, and
whoever will drink from it, will never become thirsty after that. There will come
to me some people whom I know and they know me, and then a barrier will be
set up between me and them.“
Sahih al-Bukhari 7050
Murtad will not get get chance to drink from hauz e

Narrated Asma’ ra:The Prophet ﷺsaid, "I will be at my Lake-Fount (Kauthar)
waiting for whoever will come to me. Then some people will be taken away from
me whereupon I will say, 'My followers!' It will be said, 'You do not know they
turned Apostates as renegades (deserted their religion).'" (Ibn Abi Mulaika said,
"Allah, we seek refuge with You from turning on our heels from the (Islamic)
religion and from being put to trial“
Sahih al-Bukhari 7048
Biddati will not get chance to drink from hauz
e kausar
Narrated `Abdullah ra: The Prophet ﷺsaid, "I am your predecessor at the Lake-
Fount (Kauthar) and some men amongst you will be brought to me, and when I
will try to hand them some water, they will be pulled away from me by force
whereupon I will say, 'O Lord, my companions!' Then the Almighty will say, 'You
do not know what they did after you left, they introduced new things into the
religion after you.’”
Sahih al-Bukhari 7049
How The Prophet ﷺDealt With Hardship?
The Prophet ﷺhad a two-step process when encountering hardship:
1.TURN TO ALLAH IN PRAYER and confide in Him
2.Seek counsel from his trusted confidants

forgives anything else of whomever He wills. And whoever associates others with
Allah has indeed committed a grave sin”
