Although many people think that language
learning and studying English is easy
compared to other branches, this is not the
case at all. Yes, it might seem like we focus
only on English and it makes the class easier
to study, but what people don’t know is that
we have to do Maths, Turkish Language,
Science, Geography, History, Philosophy
and Religion to be able to achieve a success.
We have to take two exams so that we can
get into a university. These exams are called
TYT and YDT ,as whole YKS. In TYT, which
means Basic Efficiency Test, we have 40
maths, 40 Turkish Languge, 20 Social
Science and 20 Science questions. In total
120 questions. In YDT, which means Foreign
Language Test, there are 4 language options

which is Arabic, Russian, French and English. In this exam we have 80 questions. Of these 80
questions 15 is vocabulary and grammar, 1 cloze test which includes 5 questions, 8 sentence
completion, 5 passages that has 3 questions for each passage therefore 15 questions, 5
dialogue, 5 paraphrase, 5 situation, 5 passage completion, 6 English to Turkish translation, 6
Turkish to English translation and lastly 5 finding the irrelevant sentence questions.

Our YKS score is determined by this two tests. TYT occupies %40 of the score and YDT occupies
the %60. Even though out branch is English, as you can see, TYT plays a big role in our score
with it’s high percentage. So despite doing 80/80 in YDT, If you don’t make a good score in TYT
you can’t really get an efficiant score in YKS.

Graduating from a high school English Class also has many career advantages. Jobs such as
English Teaching, Translation and Interpreting, Translatorship, Translation science,
Academicianship, Tourist Guidance are just a few of them. But of course when you know a
language at a certain degree your opportunities are not limited to these examples.

As you learn a language you also learn the basic ways to do so. It gets easier for you to learn
and speak more languages, as a result you can always extend your language knowledge and
more language means more doors opening for you to go higher and higher in your career.

loanwords

Like every natural language,Turkish has many loanwords. When we

want to understand if a word is an original Turkish or it is a loanword
we have to look vowels in the word. If the world doesn’t follow vowel
harmony, you know it’s probably a loanword. Also,if you find two
vowels right next together within a word (impossible in standart
Turkish) or long vowels, then it’s a loanword. This is one of the problems
Turkish speakers have with English. They can’t figure out how to
pronounce words that don’t follow the rules they’ve been using their
entire lives. Many of loanwords words came via traders and soldiers
from other languages to Turkish language, likewise Turkish language
lend words to other languages, too.

What teachers think about
learning English
As a language class, we wonder about what our teachers think about learning
English. Therefore , we asked our respectable teachers their opinions about what
English may bring us in the future and they answered.

Q:What are the benefits of learning English to our life?

Mrs.Binnaz Tüz Aygar: English is an universal language and we need English to interact foreign
people.
Mrs. Serpil: We must learn English to find a good job and it has a big help communicating with
others.

Mr. HüseyinÇakırlar : It connects us with the world, it will open new windows to your life and will
make it easier to communicate.

Mrs. Seher Mutlu: English gives you benefits about your learning life, academic life and more. It
will broaden your horizon and change your point of view.

Mr. Emre Demirbaş: It will provide us new phrases to express ourselves, speak with different
people, explore new culture.

Mr. Uğur Gökpınar : First of all, more than beinf a student, it has a big impact on individual
development. We can observe the effects on our academic life after high school.

Mrs. Kutsal Enez : English is a global language. Even the guide book of a device we bought can be
English. Knowing a foreign language, knowing English allows us to join conversations with
other races and cultures.

Mr. Yasin Görgülü: In digital era, in order to understand computer language, English is the most
important thing. English has a big effect on our academic life as well. A manager, a CEO can't
become what they wanted without knowing English.

Mrs. Sevil Ertaş : We're late on understanding the importance of English. Economic, scientific,
political relationships are made with this language, therefore we must learn English but mustn't
forget our native language. As the people in my house knows English, I had to learn English
after 45 years in a education establishment. I’m %100 sure that it will be future's common,
global language. So everyone should work hard to learn English.

In this condition, stress becomes the main
role in their life. They try to deal with
many problems such as trying to keep up
with their friends, trying to be someone
who their family want, wor-rying about
future. They tend to make wrong decisions
because of the fact that they lack
experience in life. They feel as if they were
in a dead end street when they face with
the bad consequences of the decisions they
made, thinking that they were right. All of
these issues can lead teenagers to
depression. I think we have talked about
the disadvantages enough, so, we can go
on our journey by talking about the
advantages of being a teenager.

Being young, means being at the beginning of the road. This is

why teenagers have many opportunities and new beginnings to
come across. They take their first steps to begin a long life journey.
Also, they don't have responsibilities like running a house,
preparing dinner etc. They can spend a whole day without heavy
responsibilities on their shoulders ,because they have their family
to take care of them. They can travel freely and have many
beautiful memories, which will be the most precious memories they
will ever have in their lives. As we talked about the advantages,
we can come to end of our journey.

As previously mentioned, being teenagers have lots of advantages

and disadvantages. They are new in this life so it's difficult them to
adopt but the hardships will go away in time and the only good
memories will be lasting in their lives.

Joker (2019) is an Oscar-winning psychological thriller, criminal and drama directed by
Todd Phillips. We watch Arthur's transformation to 'the Joker' who we know from DC.

Bullied and isolated by society Arthur lives with his mother in Gotham where there is a big
gap between rich and poor. He lives on clowning. He receives psychological support
because of being bullied and psychological problems he has experienced. At the same time
he uses medicines. When the state withdraws it's support from Arthur, he is dragged into
a worse situation.

One day things get out of control with an incident. Arthur kills 3 men because of something
that happens on the subway. After all these events, Arthur is regarded as 'outliers' by
some parts of the society while he is regarded as a 'hero' by the other part. After a while
Arthur becomes ''Joker'' and find himself in a chaos of Gotham city. The movie has become
a masterpiece with the influence of scenes, cinematography, music choice and high-level
acting of Joaquin Phoenix.

Like Taha Ulukaya said, if all movies are art, Joker is an art movie.

Once upon a time, in a gloomy city filled with
sadness, there lived a man named Thomas. He
a faded hope: a tale of desolation
lived alone in a rundown apartment building,
where he felt lonely all the time. Thomas was very
depressed and felt like his life was getting worse
every day.

His apartment had a strange secret, a roof that

could fold open to reveal the outside world. When
he felt really down, he would lie in his old bed,
look up at the falling ceiling, and pull a lever to
see the dark night sky. But instead of finding
comfort, it only reminded him of how the universe
seemed uncaring about his pain.

Thomas struggled for money and had problems with his job that he couldn't fix. He felt stuck in a
low-paying job that didn't make him happy or give him any relief from his suffering. Every day, he
went to work with a heavy heart, knowing that he might lose his job soon. The world seemed to
have turned its back on him, and he couldn't escape the feeling of hopelessness.

One morning, a letter came under Thomas's door that said he was fired. It was official, and it
crushed his spirit even more. His apartment felt like a prison, closing him inside and making his
dreams fade away. He sank into his old couch, feeling lost and staring at the folding roof above
him with empty eyes. He knew his dreams were shattered, and the weight of his problems and the
reality of his life felt unbearable. Any hope he had left had gone.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, but Thomas's apartment remained a sad
place where dreams went to die. He stopped painting and left his canvases empty. The artist
inside him gave up, leaving behind only emptiness.

And so, Thomas's story had a tragic

ending. He was a depressed man whose
spirit was crushed by the world. His
apartment became a symbol of his
loneliness, trapping him in a cycle of
sadness he couldn't escape. The fol-ding
roof, once a source of temporary com-
fort, now only reminded him of his broken
dreams. His cries for help echoed
through the empty halls, unheard and
forgotten.

In the forgotten stories of the city,

Thomas's name became a sad reminder
of how fragile life can be. His story
warned others about the deep despair
that can consume a person's so-ul.

And so, in the shadows of his lonely apartment. Thomas's sad existence faded away, a tragic story
in a world that had forgotten how to care.

ARE WE RESPONSIBLE?
For real? Are we responsible for what happens around us? Should we take action when somebody around us is
harrasted by someone? Maybe morally, yes. But sometimes some factors hold us up to take action. For instance a
dangerous situation that threats our life safety, maybe there are more unanswerable questions than ''Should we
help?'' First of all , we should ask ourselves that ''could we help?'' Putting someboby’s safety up to ours is not an
easy decision. While just thinking about it, it may not seem to be hard to do, but in these kind of situations
nothing stays in theory. Practically, people generally can’t take action and they stay their safe space, maybe
because of the shock of the moment or just lack of responsibility.

As a referrence, Kitty Genovese’s case is an example of this. What happened to Kitty Genovese is anything but
some type of helping each other. In the return path of her home, Kitty was caught out guard by a hijacker, stabbed
a few times and the hijacker ran away. Her neigbours witnessed it. But nobody called the police since they
thought somebody had already called for help. Once the hijacker realized that police weren’t coming, he came
back so as to check if Kitty was still alive. When he arrived again the scene of crime, he saw that Kitty dragged
herself from the ground through her doorstep. He found her bleeding to death, using this situation against her, he
raped her and then killed her. After this trageddy happened, this case took place in literature as bystander
affect.
Latané and Darley were first to perform a range of experiments to test bystander behavior in some situations.
They found that there are a number of triggerring factors for the bystander affect. They indicated that they
determine five characteristics of emergencies that affect bystanders. All of them are states of making a decision
if there is any real emergency and danger. When the person notice there is some trouble going on, there are five
more characteristics that bystanders go through. These cognitive and behavioural phases are noticing the
difference, determinig the emergency, feeling responsibile, finding a way of help and taking action.

To sum up taking action for a troublesome situation that happened somebody is not an easy task as everybody
might think. And most of the people drop through the way. But, should we be this judgemental to regular people
that firstly consider their safety? Or should we blame the destiny? Who knows the blameworthy? Maybe it’s just
life and eveything is not simple as it seems.

Chatgpt, an artificial in-
telligence that has been
released recently and is
widely used abroad .
Even some govern-

This artificial intelligence
is new, but it has
learned a lot on its own
only with the machine

this artificial intelligence
can easily pass the "Are
you a robot?" test. Let's
take a look.

First, when we show this AI(atificial intelligence) a man having a barbecue on the car and ask,
"What's wrong with this photo?" It correctly explains the weirdness in the photo. Another feature of
Chatgpt is that it can simply write and play tetris or ping pong-style games, and it does this only
with a machine learning system. One of my favorite features is that AI can understand memes,
human jokes. When we ask AI what is funny here, AI can analyze the picture it sees on the internet
without finding any explanation. And it can find the funny one for us. AI even explains whether
people find this thing absurd or pathetic, I mean AI knows better than us what we are laughing at.
Of course, besides such funny features, it also has very useful features.

came out
Undertale is a 16-bit jrpg, adventure, bullethell and puzzle
game. Game came out in September of 2015, it was first
released with a demo to play in a game fest in 2012. After
people liked the game very much, the creator of the game
Toby Fox, decided to make that a full game. First he made a
5000$ fundraiser for a 2-3 hour long game but instead,
people donated him a jaw dropping 50.000$. Then he de-
cided to make game 6-7 hours instead of 2-3 as he first
thought. He first thought the release date as 2014 but he
realized game will not be able to come out at 2014 and he
delayed the game to 2015.
