CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION:
Education is a process, which includes input; processing and output supply of money, appointment
of teachers, supply of teaching learning materials etc. are included under input. The success of teaching
is evaluated from the student’s performance. One of the techniques to evaluate student’s performance
is achievement test. This test is conducted with certain definite objectives or outcomes of education. A
test is an educational instrument is assessing the educational achievement of learners .The test makers
are constructing various types of test in various school subjects. The teacher’s job is not only to give
instruction but also to measure and to evaluate the educational out comes of student’s behaviour in
course of instruction in time to time .
1.1-What is achievement test and what is purpose of achievement test.
Any test that measures the attainments and accomplishments of an individual after a period of
training or learning. It is an important tool in school evaluation and has great significance in measuring
instructional progress and progress of the student’s in the subject area. It is directly related to the
pupil’s growth and development in educational situations .It gives an accurate picture of student’s
knowledge and skills in the subject area or domain being tested. Accurate achievement data are very
important for planning curriculum and instruction and for programme evaluation.
In this study, the investigator has compared the achievement on subject M.I.L of 7th class students
of two schools in Summative Assessment-II 2017 . Accordingly, the results of both the schools are
analysed statistically.
The two schools are:-
1- Chintamani U.P. School and
2- Krushnachandra U.P. School
1.2- Need of the study
Achievement test plays an important role in evaluating student’s performance in the course or
programmes. The result would affect student’s motivation for subsequent learning. Further, from the
viewpoint of curriculum development, the results of achievement test greatly affect curriculum
evaluation.

1.3- Objectives of the study
1. To compare the achievement of students in MIL subject of 7th class of two schools through
statistical analysis.
2. To find out the better performance of 7th class students between two schools.
1.4- Delimitation of the study
1. The study was conducted on two upper primary schools.
2. The study was conducted on 7th class students taking 30 students from each school.
3. The study was conducted taking only one subject that is M.I.L (O).
CHAPTER-II
Methods of study:
In the present study, the investigator used descriptive ex-post-facto type method.
2.1- Sample
The investigator applied random sampling method for the selection of sample i.e. two schools. In the
present study, the two schools from Rench Panchayat were selected. 30 numbers of students of those
schools were randomly selected and included in the sample.
2.2- Materials
In the present study, the investigator collected scores of the student in Summative Achievement-II
2017.
2.3- Procedure
The investigator collected the scores of 30 students of class 7 in M.I.L. (O) subject from the head of
the school. Then this score was ready for analysis.
2.4- Techniques
After collection of data, the analysis of the collected scores was done through the application of
different statistical procedures such as calculation of Range, Mean and Standard deviation.
CHAPTER-III
3.1- Procedure of data collection:
The investigator, at first, selected two Schools from Rench Panchayat. She went and met the heads
of the school, to know the schedule of Summative Assessment 2017. Then after some days, she
collected the course obtained by the students of class 7 in M.I.L. (O) subject. Then all the scores served
as the data for the present study for analysis.
3.2- Data analysis
The data obtained in Summative Assessment-II was analysed in terms of descriptive statistics which
include numbers of participants, mean, standard deviation range. The data were presented in a tabular
form for easy calculation.

From the above two tables, it is seen that the student bearing roll no. 17 of Chintamani U.P. School has
secured highest mark that is 45 out of 50 among 30 students of that school. The student bearing roll no.
8 has secured 22 marks out of 50 marks which is the lowest mark among these 30 students. On the
other hand Krushnachandra U.P. School student bearing roll no. 17 has secured 43 marks out of 50
marks, which is the highest mark in the test. The student bearing roll no. 21 and 25 have secured lowest
mark that is 14 marks out of 50 marks among these 30 students.
From the comparative study, it is seen that the students of 7th class of Chintamani U.P. School are better
in M.I.L.(O) than the 7th class students of Krushnachandra U.P. School.
Calculation Range:
Range is the difference between the highest score and lowest score. From the above result table of both
the schools, it is found that the range of Chintamani U.P. School is 45-22=23. Similarly, the range of
Krushnachandra U.P. School is 43-14=29.
Interpretation:
It indicates the range of Chintamani U.P. School students is less than the range of Krushnachandra U.P.
School. Because, the students of class 7th of Chintamnai U.P. School have secured the marks from the
range 45-22. On the other hand, the 7th class students of Krushnachandra U.P. School have secured from
43-14 range scores. Therefore, we interpret that 7th Class students of Chintamani U.P. School are better
in M.I.L. (O) subject than the 7th class students of Krushnachandra U.P. School.

Interpretation:-
In case of standard deviation calculated, it is found that the standard deviation scores of the scores
of students of Chintamani U.P. School is 6.7. The standard deviation scores of Krushnachandra U.P.
School students is 8.62. Higher SD indicates that the scores are spread out over a wide range, while
lower SD indicates that the scores are very close to the average. So, it is found that the school
Chintamani U.P. School having lower SD which implied in M.I.L., most of the students is very close to
average. Further, they are being a more homogeneous group. They are being same standard in M.I.L.
subject but in school Krushnachandra U.P. School, the students were widely spread around the average
and verities of students are there.
Percentage analysis:-
Analysis has been made taking the raw scores of both the schools. It is found that all the students
have secured above 30% in case of Chintamani U.P. School and two students have secured less the 30%
in case of Krushnachandra U.P. School. 10 numbers of students have secured 30% to 60% marks in
Chintamani U.P. School, whereas in case of Krushnachandra U.P. School, 15 students have secured 30%
to 60% marks in the subject. In case of Chintamani U.P. School, 15 students have secured 61% to 80% of
marks in the subject, whereas in Krushnachandra U.P. School, 10 students have secured the marks
within this range. In Chintamani U.P. School, 5 students have secured more than 80% marks. But in case
of Krushnachandra U.P. School, 3 students have secured marks within this range. This analysis indicates
M.I.L. (O) performance of the students in Chintamani U.P. School is better than the performance of the
students in Krushnachandra U.P. School in the said subject. More number of students of Chintamani U.P.
School has secured higher range marks in comparison with Krushnachandra U.P. school students.
CHAPTER –IV
Findings:
1. The average performance in M.I.L (O) of class 7th students of Chintamani U.P. School is better than
the average performance of Krushnachandra U.P. School.
2. The students of Chintamani U.P. School is more homogeneous that Krushnachandra U.P. School.
3. The scores of the students of Krushnachandra U.P. School is more spread than that of Chintamani
U.P. School.
4. The scores of the students of Chintamani U.P. School are more closer than that of Krushnachandra
U.P. School students.
5. The closeness of the students score in Chintamani U.P. School indicates that all the students in
Krushnachandra U.P. School are more or less of same ability.
CONCLUSION
The assessment of student’s achievement is fundamental to effective teaching and to students learning.
How well students achieve at a school depends on factors such as how well teachers engage with their
students and the relationship schools have with their families. It also depends on parent’s consciousness
about education of their children, good teaching of teachers, environmental condition of the school,
teaching learning materials, community participation, administration system of school etc. Therefore, it
is concluded all these factors collectively can enhance the achievement of the students.
