The Calvin Ball Bulletin

Construction Edition
Welcome!
Its my pleasure to share with you a list of construction projects currently underway in District two and any anticipated completion dates. These projects may cause delays so I encourage everyone to stay informed, plan ahead and use caution when driving. Please feel free to share this information with your neighbors. If you have any additional projects within District Two that you would like to see included within this newsletter, please email me at cbball@howardcountymd.gov.

Rt 175 West Bound

Much like the project on EB Rt 175, a Bridge Deck Overlay project is currently underway for WB Rt 175 over Rt 29. Residents may have already noticed left lanes are closed and there is a lane shift to the right which remains open to traffic. Please expect and plan ahead for delays, especially during peak times. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be complete by Black Friday (November 25).

EB Rt 175 Exit off Rt 29 Closed

As you may have already noticed, the exit for Rt 175 EB has been closed for the past several weeks. The State Highway Administration has advised my office they are in the process of a Bridge Deck Overlay. Weather permitting, this project should be complete with the exit returning to normal operation in three-four weeks. Tentatively the week of November 14.

Rt 1 Intersection at Rt 175
BGE has announced that it will begin performing roadwork construction at the intersection of Rt1 and Rt175. There will be a pipeline investigation and partial removal of the road surface which now requires replacement. This in compliance with DOTs Pipeline Integrity Act. Construction will begin at 6am on Saturdays and conclude at approximately 5am on Mondays. There will be temporary lane shifts clearly marked. For motorists wishing to turn east onto Rt175 from SB Rt1, there will be a slight detour. Please expect and plan ahead for delays. Weather permitting, this project should be complete by November 14.

Shipleys Grant Traffic Signal

In an effort to improve the safety of residents travelling along Rt 108 near the Shipleys Grant community, construction of a new traffic signal is underway. First, the road will need to be slightly widened and new road markings will need to be painted. Please use extreme caution when driving in this neighborhood and expect delays. Weather permitting, the signal should be operational by November 14.

Rt 29 Widening Project
The Rt 29 NB widening project research is currently underway. SHA has divided this project into two phases: Phase I will include the section of Rt 29 N of Rt 32 ending at Rt 175 and phase II will extend from the Middle Patuxent River to just north of Rt 32 encompassing the Rivers Edge intersection. Its important to note that this project has NOT received funding for construction. Therefore, there is no estimated time to begin or complete construction. I will keep you informed as additional information becomes available.

Thank You For Following Along!

Rt 1 Sidewalk Construction
In my effort to increase walkability throughout District 2, Im happy to announce a capital project (C-0285) which will include the construction of a sidewalk at two locations along Rt1: Dorsey Run Rd and Troy Hill Dr. Rt1 at Dorsey Run Rd: Approximately 300ft of sidewalk will be constructed on the east side (near Wendys). We are still awaiting right of way access before for sidewalk construction on the west side can begin. Rt1 at Troy Hill Dr: Approximately 1,500 feet of sidewalk will be constructed on the west side of Rt1 between Ducketts Lane and Troy Hill Drive. Weather permitting, this project should be complete by the end of November.

I hope you have found this information useful as you plan for your daily commutes. Again, exercise caution when travelling through these construction zones and plan for delays. All the best,

Calvin Ball Howard County Council Chairman " The life of a man consists not in seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and in willing service." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow~
