1. Ways of nurturing identified Talents are: (5marks)
a. Constant Training: After identifying one’s skill or talent, training in that particular field
will make the person to become a professional. For example, a person who has a good
voice to sing needs training to enhance the skill.
b. Practice: Training and practice go hand in hand. After training, the individual needs to put
what has been learnt into constant use and practice.
c. Monitoring: Talented persons should be monitored to attain needed improvement of
skills, so as to enable them improve their talents.
d. Skill Acquisition Centres: Skill acquisition centres can be set up for these types of people to
learn a particular vocation. This will enable them to develop their skills and talents..
e. Inquisitive Spirit: The individual should not just be comfortable with the talent or skill, but
should research and inquire on other ways to widen the scope of what he already has.
f. Research and Reading: The individual must read, research and practice constantly to have
an edge over other people with similar talents or skills.
g. Encouragement: We are all born with propensity to achieve, succeed and thrive in our
endeavours. We have certain skills, talent and abilities that can be nutured, shaped,
formed and encouraged. Career opportunities, relevant to each skills and talent, should be
explained to students to assist them to actualize their dreams.
2. Meaning of self reliance: This is the act of depending on one’s own skills and ability in achieving
one’s goals. It is the ability to think and act without help or influence of others.

3. Benefits of self reliance (3 marks)
a. A self reliant family will be comfortable, happy and heathy.
b. The society or nation will be stable politically, economically and culturally.
c. A self reliant family experiences speed and and positive results in its activities. The family
is responsible for their actions.
d. A self reliant person will also be able to assist the less privileged group in the society.
e. It is also necessary to be self reliant because, it is not possible for the government to
provide jobs for all job seekers, when one is engaged in a vocation, it will be beneficial to
the government and the entire citizenry.
f. Self sustenance- It is necessary to be self reliant so that one will be able to meet the basic
necessities of life such as food, shelter, clothing and housing.
