PROJECT FILES AND THEIR ASSOCIATED FILES
The following connections are present by default in every project:
A connection to the home folder (the system folder that contains
the project file)
A connection to the project's default geodatabase
A connection to the project's default toolbox
A connection to your active portal
Connections to default styles
Connections to default locators

GEOPROCESSING
DEFINITION
6
GIS DEFINITION
Geoprocessing is the framework and technology that allows you to process geographic and related data.
Geoprocessing refers to a suite of tools for performing spatial analysis and GIS data management.
Geoprocessing performs an operation on input data that produces output data. The geoprocessing
framework also allows you to model and automate processes using ModelBuilder or Python.

ENVIRONMENT
SETTINGS
Environment setting Description
Current Workspace Automatically generates the output dataset name and file path using the current
workspace setting
Output Coordinate System Changes the coordinate system in which the output datasets will be projected
Extent Defines which features will be processed by a tool
Cell Size Sets the output cell size of a raster operation

INTRODUCTION TO
MODELBUILDER
11
MODELBUILDER
Geoprocessing models automate and document your spatial analysis and
data management processes. ModelBuilder automates workflows by
adding data and tool elements to the model and connecting them to form
a workflow. Model elements are represented visually and do not require
any coding.
