The British commander Munro calls for reinforcements as French troops advance on their stronghold. His daughters Alice and Cora accompany over 1500 men sent as reinforcements. Scout Hawkeye and the last of the Mohicans, Uncas, help protect Major Heyward's group which includes the Munro sisters from an ambush planned by the vengeful Huron Magua, who wants to capture the sisters after being humiliated by Munro. Though Uncas is killed fighting the Hurons, Hawkeye and the others manage to rescue Cora but she dies of her wounds.

Summary
The British commander Munro, seeing a threat to their stronghold by the advance of French troops of Montcalm, calls for sending reinforcements. We sent 1500 men, and Munro's two daughters, Alice and Cora, who accompanies the more Heyword, Alicia's fiance. The latter and some soldiers take a shortcut to arrive earlier, for which they serve the Indian guide Magua, leader of the ferrets. But once commanded Munro whipped Magua. The Indian then, to avenge this insult, to place the small group made its position in the woods, where lurk their Indian allies the French. But the hunter found Ojo de Unkas Hawk and his friend, the last of the Mohicans, both mortal enemies of the Hurons, and save the British from falling into the trap. Following further incidents warriors, the group manages to reach the fort Munro, and besieged by the French. Finally they fall due. The British survivors were rendered honors, but ferrets attack again and in the midst of killing prisoners to make Alice and Cora. Munro and his men try to rescue them but they are useless to all intents and Cora is assigned to Magua as spoils of war. The English, aided by the Delaware tribe, struggling against the Hurons and annihilate.Cora and Magua kills Unkas, "the last of the Mohicans, and he is killed by Eye-of-Hawk.Cora and Unkas are buried together. Munro survives, but can never overcome the pain of this terrible loss. Alicia returns home, and the great hunter Hawk Eye-of-delaware remains with the faithful. This is the most popular work of Cooper, a classic adventure among the Indians. At times, his prose becomes truly poetic flights, for example by giving the end of Unkas, and although his characters are romantically idealized, if authentic, like the natural environment and its inhabitants.

Characters
Hawkeye - The novels frontier hero, he is a woodsman, hunter, and scout. Hawkeye is the heros adopted name; his real name is Natty Bumppo. A famous marksman, Hawkeye carries a rifle named Killdeer and has earned the frontier nickname La Longue Carabine, or The Long Rifle. Hawkeye moves more comfortably in the forest than in civilization. His closest bonds are with Indians, particularly Chingachgook and Uncas, but he frequently asserts that he has no Indian blood. As a cultural hybrida character who mixes elements of different culturesHawkeye provides a link between Indians and whites. Magua - The novels villain, he is a cunning Huron nicknamed Le Renard Subtil, or the Subtle Fox. Once a chief among his people, Magua was driven from his tribe for drunkenness. Because the English Colonel Munro enforced this humiliating punishment, Magua possesses a burning desire for retaliation against him. Major Duncan Heyward - A young American colonist from the South who has risen to the rank of major in the English army. Courageous, well-meaning, and noble, Heyward often finds himself out of place in the forest, thwarted by his lack of knowledge about the frontier and Indian relations. Heywards unfamiliarity with the land sometimes creates problems for Hawkeye, the dexterous woodsman and leader. Uncas - Chingachgooks son, he is the youngest and last member of the Indian tribe known as the Mohicans. A noble, proud, self-possessed young man, Uncas falls in love with Cora Munro and suffers tragic consequences for desiring a forbidden interracial coupling. Noble Uncas thwarts the evil Maguas desire to marry Cora. Uncas also functions as Hawkeyes surrogate son, learning about leadership from Hawkeye. Chingachgook - Uncass father, he is one of the two surviving members of the Mohican tribe. An old friend of Hawkeye, Chingachgook is also known as Le Gros SerpentThe Great Snakebecause of his crafty intelligence. David Gamut - A young Calvinist attempting to carry Christianity to the frontier through the power of his song. Ridiculously out of place in the wilderness, Gamut is the subject of Hawkeyes frequent mockery. Gamut matures into Hawkeyes helpful ally, frequently supplying him with important information.
