DVD/VCR Setup
• Power Source
o Are the DVD Player/VCR and television plugged in? If so, are they
plugged directly into a power outlet or a power strip? Do the power outlet
and/or strip work?
If there is a power strip, is the power strip plugged in and is it turned
on?
There should be switch on the power strip to turn it on and off.
Is there a power strip on the side of the cart? If so, you may need to
plug the DVD Player/VCR and television into this power strip, which is
then plugged into the power outlet.
• Connecting the DVD Player/VCR and Television.
o There are 2 possible options for connecting the DVD Player/VCR and
television, depending on the cables available in the training room. They
begin on the following page.

Option 1: This is done with a cord that has three connectors at each end.
The connectors will likely be red, white, and yellow, although the colors
may vary. The connectors appear in the picture below.
On the back of both the DVD Player/VCR and television you will find slots
like those shown in the picture below. They should be in the colors of
yellow, red, and white, just like the connectors in the picture above. The
connectors at each end should be matched with the same colored slots on
the back of both the DVD Player/VCR and television.
In the picture above you will see the words “IN” and “OUT”. This picture is
of the back of a television. You should insert the connectors in the row
labeled “IN”, as you want the video to go out from the DVD Player/VCR
“IN” to the television.
The same logic applies to the DVD Player/VCR. You want the video to go
“OUT” from the DVD Player/VCR in to the television. This means that the
connectors at the other end of the cord should be inserted into the row
labeled “OUT” on the back of the DVD Player/VCR. (They should not be
inserted into the slots labeled “Component”)

Option 2: This is done with a cord that looks similar to a standard cable
that comes out of the wall in your home and connects to a television. The
cable will look similar to the one shown below, but will have 2 identical
ends.
Each end will connect to either the television or the DVD Player/VCR. The
connections will look similar to the one shown in the picture below.
• If the DVD Player/VCR is a combo unit, as seen in the first picture below, it may
be necessary to select either DVD or VCR.
o To make this selection, there will be a button on the DVD Player/VCR
player labeled DVD/VCR. This button will toggle between the two
functions. It may also be located on the DVD Player’s/VCR’s remote
control.
• It may be necessary to select an input source on the television. The button to
switch the input source will be located on the televisions remote control and
sometimes on the television. It may be labeled “TV/AV”, “INPUT”, “AV”, “AUX”,
“SOURCE”, “TV/DVD”, “DVD”, etc. This button will toggle through the available
options. The easiest way to indentify the input source is to look at the label on
the back of the television, where the DVD Player/VCR is plugged in.
o If you press a channel button on the television and are unable to return to
the DVD Player/VCR screen, simply press the button indicated in the main
bullet above, which should return the television to the DVD Player/VCR
screen.

Trouble Shooting
Is the DVD inserted picture up? (It will not play otherwise.)
Is the item you inserted into the DVD Player a DVD? (While music CD’s
will work in a DVD player, PowerPoint Presentations on a CD will not work
in a DVD player)
If the colors of the connectors on the cable are different, simply make sure
that the are plugged into the same colored slot on both the DVD
Player/VCR and television. (e.g., if one of the connectors is green and the
other two colors are red and white, plug the red and white connectors into
the corresponding colors on the DVD Player/VCR and television and
connect the green connector into the yellow slots on the DVD Player/VCR
and television.)
