 Versions
The HERZ 4017 DZR combined regula ng and measuring valve has an integral orifice incorporated into the valve
cas ng. Available in sizes from DN15 to DN50, 1/2" to 2", with BSP female threaded ends to BS21 and manufactured
to BS 7350. The valve is also available in Low Flow and Medium Flow DN15 versions.
The commissioning valve has hidden regula ng and locking func ons with high accuracy and good repeatability. The
valve is fi ed with two standard pressure test points; extended test points are available when required. A ‘Microset’
two number posi on indicator is fi ed to the adjustment handle for recording the valve posi on.

documenta on when using ethylene glycol products for frost and corrosion protec on.

Applica on
Strainers are installed in pipes to protect the finely machined valve seats from par cles. Field of applica on are
building services, such as in hea ng or chilled water units for air condi oning in buildings. EPDM Sealings can be
destroyed by organic hydro carbons, which are occurring in natural gas, mineral oil or lubricants.
Installa on and maintenance
A horizontal or ver cal installa on is possible, taking into account the flow direc on. The screening mesh chamber
should face down. HERZ recommends using standard thread sealants for the connec on between strainer and pipe.
The strainer can be removed and cleaned by opening the locking screw. Drain the system before opening the
locking screw. Reassemble in reverse order. Damage to the sealing have to be avoided. For service it is
recommended to install isolators before and a er the strainer.

 Important for Installation
Under no circumstances should the HERZ thermostatic head be exposed to direct sunlight or to the Important for Instal-
lation effects of equipment emitting relevant quantities of heat, e. g. TV sets. If the radiator is covered by curtains this will
lead to the formation of a heat accumulation zone in which the thermostat cannot sense the room temperature properly
and consequently cannot control it. In such cases, use the HERZ thermostat with remote sensor or the HERZ thermostat
with remote adjustment.
For detailed information on the HERZ thermostats consult the individual standard sheets.

Summer Setting
After the end of the heating period open thermostats or handwheels completely by turning anti- Summer Setting clock-
wise, this prevents dirt particles accumulating at the valve seat.

HERZ-TS Handwheel
In case the lower part of a HERZ thermostatic valve is not equipped with a HERZ thermostatic head the
HERZ-TS handwheel will replace the screw cap.
During assembly follow the enclosed instructions.

Applica�on 1 7990 31, 1 7990 32

The HERZ-Actuator propor�onal 5/6,5 mm is a thermoelectric actuator for the control of hea�ng and cooling
systems in direct propor�on to the applied control voltage. The control of the actuators is performed by a 0-10 V
DC signal via a central DDC system or by a room thermostat. Principal area of applica�on is the building
management system range.
Furthermore, the variant 1 7990 32 with valve path recogni�on automa�cally register the valve path for an
op�mum use of the ac�ve control voltage range. This guarantees an even more precise control of all valves.
Opera�on
The actua�ng drive is switched on via an electrical contact, e.g. from a room thermostat, and starts opening or
closing the thermosta�c valve. The actua�ng movement is accomplished by an electrically-heated expansion
element. When the hea�ng current is switched off, the valve closes or opens respec�vely. The HERZ actua�ng drive
is maintenance-free and offers silent opera�on.
Emergency func�on
With factory se�ng “normally closed” the valve can be opened by removing the drive in case of a power failure.

The valve adapter assortment guarantees a perfect match of the actuator to almost all valve bo�oms and hea�ng
circuit distributors available on the market. The HERZ Actuator Propor�onal is simply plugged on to the valve
adapter previously installed manually.

 Room thermostat
Standard room thermostats equipped with a thermal feedback loop can be used for pilo�ng the HERZ actua�ng
drive. If required, several drives can be connected in parallel taking the maximum admissible electrical load of the
switch contact into account.
Design and planning notes
When selec�ng the switch contacts and mains fuses, the inrush current of the hea�ng element must be taken into
account. The voltage loss in the electric lines must not exceed 10 %, ensuring that the indicated run�me is
guaranteed.
Max. cable length for an actua�ng drive with given cable cross-sec�ons (informa�on with voltage drop approx. 5 %;
at 230 V voltage drop is 10 V, at 24 V voltage drop is 1 V).
When using several actua�ng drives, the indicated cable length must be divided by the number of actua�ng drives
connected.
