One of my favourite places to be is Edinburgh in May. This is late spring and I think the city is at its most beautiful because there are
blossoms everywhere and birdsong has returned after the winter break.

I love walking down the Royal Mile and looking over Princes Street. You can see the Princes Street Gardens full of bushes covered in
brightly-coloured flowers. 1 there are usually buskers on various corners playing the bagpipes with
enthusiasm and I love that unique sound. 2 Princes Gardens, the Meadows also looks wonderful. It’s a
large park full of trees which are covered in pink blossom in spring. People gather there after work to relax and you can watch students
play rugby or football 3 . It’s lovely to watch everyone having fun outdoors.

For those who want to find somewhere more peaceful, there’s 4 the Royal Botanic Garden to visit. It is
a real haven of tranquillity with beautiful trees and well-tended flower beds to enjoy looking at.

All this makes Edinburgh a special place to enjoy spring, especially if it’s been a cold winter.

Write down your ideas using a mind map. Then organise your ideas into four paragraphs. Make sure the first paragraph
introduces the place and the final paragraph sums up the place.
Step 3
Decide where you can use the words in addition, apart from, also and as well.
Step 4
Write your description. Don’t forget to check your work for spelling when you have finished.
