Panel de Control Automático

This document describes the control panel for the air conditioning and heating system on several Caterpillar excavator models. The control panel contains switches to turn the system on/off, select the temperature, fan speed, air inlet and outlet settings. It displays the current settings and temperature. Systems with only heat have a separate manual heat switch. The switches allow selecting settings and sending codes to adjust the air conditioning and heating unit accordingly.

Operation for illustration 38 and illustration 39

When the engine start switch is turned ON, the control panel will power the back lighting. The
control panel will then turn on all segments of the LCD for 2 seconds. The control panel must be
in the ON mode.

Scrolling Mode
Temperature select switches (4) and (5) have the ability to scroll. Fan speed override switches (8)
and (9) have the ability to scroll. After any of these switches is held for one second, the value will
change at a rate of 2 steps per second.

English versus Metric Toggle

In order to toggle between English and Metric readouts, multiple keys must be pressed
simultaneously. With the display On, press the temperature select switch (increase) (4) , the
temperature select switch (decrease) (5) and the On/Off switch (1) simultaneously. This will
toggle the display between Degrees Celsius and Degrees Fahrenheit.

Functionality of Switches

On/Off Switch (1) - The

control panel will toggle
between OFF and ON modes.
When the control panel is
turned ON, the panel will first
turn on the back lighting. The
control panel will then
perform a self-check. The
control panel will also display
the last recorded settings for
the selected air outlet,
heating, and fan speed. The
code for ON is also sent to
the control module. When the
control panel is turned OFF,
the LCD display will become
blank. The back lighting will
remain in the ON position
and the OFF code will be sent
to the control module.

Temperature Select Switch

(Increase) (4) - The
temperature select switch
(increase) causes the
numeric display on the
preset temperature display to
increment. This switch also
sends the code for a
temperature (increase) to the
control module. A single
press of this key is equal to

one step. Increment the

temperature by holding the
temperature select switch
down. The size of step is
equal to 1°F and .5°C in the
automatic mode. The size of
a step is equal to 1 step in
the mode for manual heat.

Temperature Select Switch

(Decrease) (5) - The
temperature select switch
(decrease) causes the
numeric display on the
preset temperature display to
decrease. This switch also
sends the code for a
temperature (decrease) to the
control module. A single
press of this key is equal to
one step. Decrease the
temperature by holding the
temperature select switch
down. In the automatic
mode, the size of the step is
equal to .5°C . Otherwise,
the size of step is equal to 1°
F. The size of a step is equal
to 1°F in the mode for
manual heat.

Fan Speed Override Switch

(Increase) (9) - In automatic fan
mode, the switch signals the control
panel. The control panel sends the
signal for manual fan operation to the
control module. After receiving the
setting for the fan speed, the control
panel will display the fan speed on the
LCD indicator lights (7) . In the
manual fan mode, the switch signals
the control panel to increase the fan
speed. Also, the control panel changes
the LCD display. The new code for
the fan speed is sent to the control
module. Pressing and holding this
switch will cause the control panel to
function normally, but the fan speed
will increase at the rate of scroll. The
control panel also sends the new fan
speed to the control module after each
increment.

Fan Speed Override Switch

(Decrease) (8) - In the automatic fan
mode, the switch signals the control
panel. The control panel sends a code
for manual fan operation to the
control module. After receiving the
setting for the fan speed, the control
panel will display the fan speed on the
LCD indicator lights (7) . In the
manual fan mode, the switch signals
the control panel to decrease the fan
speed. The control panel changes the
LCD display. Next, the control panel
sends the new fan speed to the control
module. Pressing and holding this
switch will cause the control panel to
function normally, but the fan speed
will decrease at the rate of scroll. The
control panel also sends the new fan
speed to the control module after each
decrement.

Air Inlet Select Switch

(Recirculated Air) (11) -
When the air inlet select
switch (recirculated air) is
pressed, the control panel
responds by displaying the
relative symbol. The panel
then sends the code for
recirculation to the control
module.

Air Inlet Select Switch

(Fresh Air) (10) - When the
air inlet select switch (fresh
air) is pressed, the control
panel responds by displaying
the relative symbol. The
panel then sends the code for
fresh air to the control
module.

Air Outlet Select Switch

(Upper Body) (15) - When
the air inlet select switch
(upper body) is pressed, the
control panel responds by
displaying the relative
symbol. The control panel
then sends the code for air to
the upper body to the control
module.

Air Outlet Select Switch

(Upper Body and Foot)
(14) - When the air outlet
select switch (upper body
and foot) is pressed, the
control panel responds by
displaying the related
symbol. The control panel
then sends the code for air to
the control module.

Air Outlet Select Switch

(Under Seat) (13) - When
the air outlet select switch
(under seat) is pressed, the
control panel responds by
displaying the relative
symbol. The control panel
then sends the code for air to
foot to the control module.

Air Outlet Select Switch (Defroster)

(12) - When the air outlet selection
switch (defroster) is pressed, the
control panel responds by displaying
the relative symbol. The control panel
then sends the code for the defroster to
the control module.

Air Conditioning Override

Switch (3) - In the automatic
mode, pressing the air
conditioning override switch
will cause the control panel to
send a code for manual
control of the air conditioning
system to the control module.
The control module then
directs the refrigerant
compressor for continuous
operation. The symbol is
displayed.

Note: This application will defog windows. This application will reduce extreme humidity.

Note: It is not necessary to push this switch in order to utilize the air conditioning system. In
automatic mode, simply set the temperature of the cab.

In the override modem, pressing the air conditioning override switch will cause the control panel
to send a code for automatic control of the air conditioning system to the control module. The
symbol for the air conditioning is then turned OFF.

Automatic Temperature
Control Switch (2) - In the
automatic temperature mode,
pressing the "AUT" switch
signals the control panel. The
control panel sends a signal
for the fan only mode to the
control module. After
receiving the setting for the
fan speed, the control panel
will display the fan speed on
the LCD indicator display
(7) . The control panel sends
codes to the control module.
The control module turns the
air conditioner clutch OFF.
The control module closes the
water valve. In the manual
temperature mode, pressing
the "AUT" switch will cause
the control panel to send a
code for the automatic mode
to the control module. The
LCD display will display the
"AUT" symbol instead of the
"HAND" symbol. The control
module will actuate the air
conditioner clutch or the
water valve. The control
module automatically
regulates the fan speed in
order to maintain the desired
temperature.

Note: If the fan speed is manually selected, the "AUT" switch must be pushed twice in order to
make the fan speed automatic again. If the air conditioner override is selected, the "AUT" switch
must be pushed twice in order to make the fan speed automatic again.

The picture shows fully automatic mode.

On/Off Switch for Manual Heat (16)

- In the automatic temperature mode,
pressing the manual heat switch will
cause the control panel to send a code
for manual temperature control to the
control module. When the control
panel receives the fan speed, the
control panel will display the
following items: the fan icon, the fan
speed on indicator display (7) and the
current position of the water valve (a
number from 1 to 16 on the LCD
display). In the manual heat mode, the
temperature select switches will
change the setting of the water valve.
