I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the grade 1 pupils are expected to:
A. solve directly the different given example problem of addition.
B. show other strategies that are applicable to be used, and;
C. apply their learning in addition, to some situation in their life that involve
adding of numbers.

II. CONTENT AND MATERIALS

A. Topic: Illustrates addition as “putting together or combining or joining
sets”
B. Reference:
C. Material: Visual Presentation
D. Method: ADIDAS
E. Values integration: Valuing Patience in Solving Math Problem

Preliminary Activities

Good morning, class! Good morning, teacher!

How are you today? We’re good teacher

Okay! It’s good to hear that you are doing great!

Let us bow our head for the prayer. (The students pray)

Now, I will be checking your attendance. Say (The students listen attentively and
present if your name is called. answer the teacher when their
name is called.)
Classroom rules
1. Respect for Authority – Address teachers with
appropriate titles (“Ma’am” or “Sir”)
2. Maintain cleanliness inside the classroom and the
school premises.
3. Show respect to classmates and teachers.
4. Raise hand if you want to answer to the teachers’
question.

Activity

If I have ten sets of yellow mangoes, five sets of green

ones, and five sets of bananas, How many sets of fruits
do I have?

Can anyone solve this problem?

Ok very good

But how he can get that answer?

Discussion

Do you have any idea about our topic for today's class?
About addition, teacher.
Yes, you have an idea; it is about addition. But it is not
simply adding numbers; our topic today is all about
illustrating addition as “putting together, combining, or
joining sets.”

And what is it all about?

The process of combining or putting things together is

called addition. The numbers that we add or put together
are called addends. The answer in addition is called the
sum. The symbol for addition is the plus sign (+).
What do we call the process of combining or
putting things together? Addition, teacher.

The answer of addition is called what? Sum, teacher.

Okay very good!

So what we did earlier was combine or join the sets of

fruits, and that is an example of addition.

Since there are ten sets of yellow mangoes, five sets of

green mangoes, and five sets of bananas, We combine it
all, so we have 20 sets of fruits.

Did you get it class? Yes, teacher.

Okay very good

And now we were going solve this another set of
problem.

And now we were going to solve another set of

problems.

Mario bought 5 junk foods, 3 candies, and 4 lollipops. If

we were going to add it all, how many would it be
altogether?

The first thing to do in class is to determine the given

number. Then we will combine it so we can have an
answer.

So in the problem, we have 5 junk foods, 3 candies, and

4 lollipops.

And we combine them, so we have this process...

5 junk foods + 3 candies + 4 lollipops = 11

We combine all the numbers, so we have 11, so there are

11 foods that Mario has bought. Yes, teacher!
Add or combine the number,
teacher.
Did you get it class?
How are we going to get the answer? Addition, teacher.

What operation will we use?

We can get it teacher by
Input combining or joining the sets.

Again, class, how can we get the answer or the total of

the addition?

Very good

And now I have here a set of activities you are going to

do to solve the different problems.

In the garden, there are different kinds of trees. There are

10 coconuts, 7 jackfruits, and 5 mabolos. How many
trees are there in the garden?

Deepening

Okay, I want somebody from the class to answer my

questions. Student 1: You have 21 fruits in
all, teacher.
Question 1: If I bought 10 apples, 5 oranges, and 6
pineapples, how many fruits do I have? Adding the given numbers is my
solution, teacher, and I add or
combine the numbers. I combined
How did you get 21? What solution have you used? the numbers to get the answer,
which is 21.

Okay, very good solution!

Activity

The class is divided into 2 groups, and each group is

given sets of materials to be used in the activity. Each
group was going to count the sets of popsicle sticks, and
they were going to make or construct a different example
situation of addition using the popsicle sticks.
