Braid Band Specifications

AMFM Incorporated Braid Bands are manufactured to a “Fit Size” reflecting the hose size the band ID is produced to
accommodate. There are two methods of specification:

1. AMFM Standard Specification, designated by AMFM part number, fit size indicated in ID column of catalog.

I.D. 2. Customer Part Number Control, see Production Control section of this catalog for details.
(Fit Size) Braid Bands are manufactured to “Fit Size”. Fit size can only be accurately determined at time of manufacture. Parts are
subject to changes from handling, secondary operation, packaging and shipping. These changes do not affect the Fit Size for
this intended use, unless the parts are mechanically deformed. Due to these minor dimension changes from handling. AMFM
CANNOT provide parts to specific minimum or maximum dimensions, as it will cause limitation and incorrect Fit Size. Reference
the Hose Sizing section (page 4) of this catalog for detail regarding properly sizing AMFM Incorporated braid bands.

STANDARD TOLERANCE: “Fit Size” + .010 / - .005

Standard Widths indicated below or Non-Standard Width as indicated by the part number. Non-standard widths are indicated as
shown in the Part Number Description 4 . All usable widths can be supplied. Delivery is subject to non-standard lead times
depending on the specific requirements. Many alternate widths are available in as standard stock. Any width can be made
standard stock with ongoing demand. Parts manufactured by Customer Specification require width indication.

Sizing AMFM Braid Bands
AMFM Braid Bands must be sized for each individual hose and configuration. This is specified Fit Size as defined in the specifica-
tions section of this catalog.
• The AMFM sizing gauge was developed exclusively for use with braided metal hose to
indicate the appropriate AMFM Braid Band for the hose being measured.
• Selecting size from catalog dimensions from hose manufacturer or measuring hose without
consulting factory is not recommended.
• More than one “standard” size increment will fit a braided hose with nominal difference
except in smaller hose sizes (under 1”).
• Double braid hoses generally require the equivalent increase of approximately three
standard sizes over the single braid size.
• AMFM Braid Bands offer very close consistency and in some instances can exceed that of
the hose. This may require alternate bands when a very tight fit is used that leaves no ability to consume a minor increase
in hose diameter.

Parts Characteristics & Features

Out of Round This value can only be determined at the time of manufacture in most sizes; Due to handling as mentioned
in ID Section. Acceptable tolerances applied at time of manufacture do not affect the part “Fit Size”.

Referring to general edge condition. Single point protrusion or burr, with specification maximum of .0075”

and .005”, respectively. All edges burr free and square.

Edge Variation With reference perpendicular to ID, part edge variations can deviate in parallel, part square, or basic
material irregularities. Variations can involve a single edge or both. Specification calls for a maximum

Type Sizing
Band width is important when considering type size. Small braid bands and narrow width wrapped bands have limited imprint-
ing surface. For small parts, small type sizes is advisable. Consult factory for application questions.
Standard allocation for all programs includes allocation of 1/8” above and below the imprint area. Collars used as an ID tag do
not require the additional space.
Note: Non-standard width part required for M and A series braid bands requiring two lines of flexible imprint. Consult factory
for details; parts not welded to metal hose (used as tag) may not require non-standard width.

The Fixed Imprinting program allows customers to establish a permanent imprint that cannot be changed.
This allows for maximum investment for long-term use of a standard imprint. The fixed program may be combined with flexible
