get their food ?
Plants make their own food. They do not depend on others
for making their food. That is why they are called autotrophs.
Leaves help the plants in making their food. Agreen coloured
substance called chlorophyll, in the leaves, helps plants to
make their food.
Plants also need water and
carbon dioxide to make their
food. Plants draw water and
mineral salts from the soil
through their roots.
There are small pores on the Pores

leaves of the plants. They draw

in carbon dioxide and some water
from the atmosphere through
these pores.
This process of making food by plants takes place only in the
sunlight. This process is known as photosynthesis.
Animals do not make their own food. They depend on plants
and other animals for their food. They are called heterotrophs.
