SID

Brazilian immigration authority indicated that after May 2023, only SIDs issued under the ILO C185 will be recognized as valid travel
documents for seafarers.

The Seafarer’s Identity Documents Convention No. 185 (C185), adopted by the ILO in 2003, was ratified by Brazil in 2010 when the outdated ILO
Convention 108 (C108) of 1958 was denounced.

Therefore, only seafarers holding an ILO C185 SID will be allowed to enter; alternatively, they will have to present a valid passport and, depending
on their nationality and length of stay, a visa to enter the country or land for repatriation.

SID BECOMES THE OFFICIAL IMMIGRATORY DOCUMENT IN BRAZIL FOR MARITIMES CREW MEMBERS.

IT IS ALSO APPLICABLE FOR CREW ARRIVING BY SEA AND STAYING ON BOARD.

IN ORDER FOR A SEAFARER TO HAVE THE SID IT IS NECESSARY THAT HIS/HER HOME COUNTRY BE A SIGNATORY OF THE ILO C185.

IF THE SEAFARER ON BOARD DOES NOT POSSESS SID OR VALID VISA THERE WILL BE A FINE APPLIED.

FOR SOME NATIONALITIES IT IS ALLOWED TO USE PASSPORT AS A IMMIGRATORY VALID DOCUMENT.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN A VISA IN BRAZIL. SEAFARERS NEED TO APPLY FOR VISA AT THEIR HOME COUNTRY.

REMARKS EMBARK

The crew member must carry the original documents with them.

We suggest bringing the crew 2 (two) days before berthing to have enough time to carry out all the formalities while they wait in isolation at the
hotel.

All formalities take around 5/6 hours or almost a whole day depending on the ferry terminal.

After obtaining all authorizations from the port authorities, we will be able to begin moving crew members safely.

The above formalities must be strictly followed to comply with requests from authorities and protect owners against fines.

Prior authorization is not permitted.

We suggest to avoid international flights via LATAM airlines due to several problems faced as they don’t proceed with Immigration regulations
required in GRU.

If possible please book all flight via GRU since we're facing troubles in GIG airport with Immigration (formalities and communication)

Important: the crew member must bring the Covid vaccination card/certificate to Brazil (good quality – English language).

Important: If there is a connection at the São Paulo airport (GRU), more than five (6) hours, the crew will be sent to the hotel in GRU.

Important: Fly ticket - connection in GRU and GIG to national or international airports (minimum connection time of 4 hours) between flights.
