GREEK ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM

It is one of the most famous museums in the


world because it houses an impressive
collection of ancient art from around the
world, but especially from Greece, offering a
wonderful view of history. The museum
houses over 20,000 objects that characterize
the history of Greece, objects organized in
numerous galleries. The building was built at
the end of the 19th century and was
renovated in 2004. Along with the objects
that can be admired (statuettes, masks,
jewelry, etc.), there is also an impressive
collection of photographs, as well as a library
that provides extremely rare documents and
books.
The museum is housed in an imposing
neoclassical building from the end of the
century. in the 19th century. The huge space
of the exhibition is organized in numerous
galleries on each of the 5 floors on an area of
8,000 square meters: the Prehistoric
Collection, which includes works of the great
civilizations from the 6th millennium BC. and
until 1050 BC (Neolithic, Cycladic,
Mycenaean); The Sculpture Collection
includes Greek sculptures from the 7th-5th
centuries BC; The Collection of Vessels and
Small Objects contains representative works
of ancient Greek pottery from the 11th
century BC. until the Roman period; The
collection of metallurgical objects includes
many interesting statues and the Egyptian and
Middle Eastern Collection includes works from
the year 5,000 BC. and until the period of the
Roman conquests.

The museum also has an impressive archive of


photographs and a bookstore with rare
publications, being enriched with new
modernizations that can help researchers in
their discoveries. The museum also has
modern conservation laboratories for metals,
ceramics, stone, and organic materials, a
coloring workshop, a photography lab, and a
chemistry lab.
The museum organizes various temporary
exhibitions, a reading room for archaeological
materials and one of the largest stores of the
Archaeological Discoveries Fund. The National
Archaeological Museum is visited annually by
thousands of tourists. In addition to exhibiting
his treasures, he organizes temporary
exhibitions bringing exhibits both from Greece
and abroad.

The National Archaeological Museum also


serves as a research center for scientists and
students around the world and participates in
various educational programs. A special
feature is that the museum provides guides
for the hearing impaired.
The bronze statue of Artemision (Poseidon or
Zeus… is not known… because the object he
was wearing is missing… possibly a trident), is
a statue slightly larger than the real
dimensions of man; was recovered from the

sea..
