Earthworms
Earthworms live in the ground and are very important because
they make the ground healthy for plants to grow in. They are
(1) all over the world, but they are more common in
Europe. They do not live in deserts or (2) where there
is a lot of snow and ice. This is because it is too (3)
for them and the ground is hard. People have (4) some
kinds of earthworms which were as long as a ruler, but they are
usually only as long as your finger. Their bodies are (5)
up of little rings, and they have small hairs on them. The worm
uses these rings to (6) and make holes. People who
like fishing go looking for earthworms because they use them to
catch fish with. Fish love eating worms.

Desert Tortoises
Some children keep tortoises as pets, the kinds that swim in the
sea, but there are other kinds of tortoises which don't live in the
sea. Desert tortoises (1) in the deserts between the
US and Mexico. During the summer, the (2) gets very
hot where they live. To stay cool, these tortoises use their
strong legs to (3) holes, where they can hide from the
sun. Some of the holes they use are very long and (4) ,
and they can get pretty crowded. As many as 25 desert
tortoises might live (5) in one hole. The animals also
make lines on the ground to (6) the water that falls as
rain. After a storm, they come back to these holes to drink the
water that's collected inside, because they can get very thirsty.
