The documents you need to submit
The documents you must submit can either be in colour or in black and white.
You need to submit the following documents:
Identity documents
When you meet at the police, you need to bring the passport or the ID
document you gave us information about when you filled in the page 'Passport
and ID'.
For the time periods you have been an employee
Your employment contract or an 'ansettelsesbevis' (employment certificate
which is filled in by your employer).
If you have been working for a recruitment or temporary work agency, you must
document at least one specific assignment.
Other documents
Signature form signed by you or your parents/guardians. You will find the
signature form as an attachment to the email you receive after the application
form has been submitted. Please print, sign and bring with you this signature
form.
If you want someone to follow up on your application with the UDI on your
behalf, you must submit a completed power of attorney form. You will find more
information about what it means to grant a power of attorney on our website.
Below are suggestions for other documents you can submit if the list above does not
describe your entire situation. This is intended as a guide only. You do not have to
submit all these documents, but in total, you must be able to document all the five
years you have been in Norway. You can also submit other relevant documents.

Why do you have to provide information?
We need information about you in order to consider your application. In some
cases we may also need information about family members, your employer, or
your host family.

We have the right to process your personal data according to the
Immigration Act, Section 83a and the Immigration Regulations, Section 17-
7a.

You have an obligation to provide correct information
You must provide correct, up-to-date, and complete information to the
immigration authorities. Incorrect or incomplete information provided in your
application can have negative consequences for you.
Possible consequences of providing incorrect or incomplete information
We can revoke your residence permit.
It is a punishable offence to provide materially false or manifestly
misleading information in your case, either wilfully or through gross
negligence.
You can be expelled from Norway and the Schengen area.
If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen and expelled from Norway, you can
also be registered in the Schengen Information System (SIS), which
means that you will not be able to enter any of the Schengen
countries.

We keep your personal data safe
Your personal information is stored securely in our systems.
How we handle your personal data
We store your personal data in our databases.
The UDI and the other agencies under the immigration authorities
have access to your personal information for the purpose of
processing your application.
We may also access your personal information in subsequent cases,
i.e. if you apply for a permanent residence permit or your family
members apply for family immigration.
We store your personal information as long as necessary to solve
our tasks. Subsequently, your personal data can be transferred to
the National Archives, in accordance with the regulations in the
Archives Act. Started applications will be deleted after six weeks of
inactivity.
If you are applying from Norway, you must meet with the police to
hand in your application documents within ten months of submitting
the application form. If not, the police will refund the fee (if
applicable) and you must submit a new application form if you still
want to apply.

information, we also share portions of that information with other public
authorities.

We can collect necessary information from other public authorities,
such as the police, the tax authorities, the National Registry, the
municipalities, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration
(NAV) or The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund
('Lånekassen').
We can obtain information from the authorities of other countries if
this is necessary and doing so does not put you or your family at risk.
We can collect information from open sources, such as web pages
and social media.
The immigration authorities have a duty of confidentiality. We can
only disclose your personal data if it is stated in the law that we can,
or if you consent to disclosure.
Several public agencies have the right to obtain information from the
UDI, such as the tax authorities, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare
Administration (NAV), The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund
('Lånekassen'), the National Registry or the police.
We are obliged to disclose information to other countries in Europe
that cooperate on control of national borders, visa regulations and
police duties (the Schengen cooperation).
Information, which is not subject to any confidentiality, may be
disclosed to other public agencies and to businesses and individuals.
For example, we disclose information to the Labour Inspection
Authority and employers about whether a person has the right to
work in Norway.
