It is my hope that this book will address one ofthe greatest needs of young guitar
students: appropriate ensemble music for beginning-level readers.
There are 15 pieces contained here, in a trio format with teacher accompaniments. The
music does not teach notation reading but ratler ¡einforces beginning level reading skills
through ensemble playing. Before studying the music in this book students should be
familiar with the following:
o Keys
I G Major - one oct¿ve scale in I't position
o D&A Major - one oct¿ve scale in 2d position
Rh¡hms
o Expression
. p;fi,mf,
a
o rítard
o Editorial
Any pieces that extend beyond the musical elements above may be used to expand
student knowledge in those areas.
When composing these little trios my only aim, afrer setting specific parameters for
myself as to key, rhythm, melodic range, etc., was to write music that would be fun for
young students to play. I've enjoyed writing them, my own students have enjoyed
playing them - I hope the same for you and yours.
