king Lear:- (theme of madness)/

King Lear was the King of Britain .He was very old. He decided to
divide his kingdom among his three daughters. according to their
love to him. Goneril and Regan used false words to deceive their
Father to take their parts of the kingdom, but Cordelia told him that
she loved him according to her duty. He didn't like Cordelia's words,
So he deprived her and gave her Part to Goneril and Regan. He went
to live with Goneril at her palace and He Suffered, because he Found
difference between Words and actions.

2- Goneril: (theme of ungratefulness- greediness) (theme of appearance


versus reality)

Goneril was King Lear's oldest daughter.She wanted to take biggest


part of Lear's Kingdom When Lear asked her three daughters how
much they loved him, Goneril said the most sweet words, and it
proved to be false Words, When Lear went to live with her She treated
him badly and asked him to reduce the number of the Soldiers. She
hate every sign that proves that Lear was a king one day, So he
decided to leave her and go to Live with Regan. He went out to face
The storm. His mind Couldn't bear this bad treatment and He was un
balanced.

3-Regan : (theme of ungratefulness- greediness) (theme of appearance


versus reality)

Regan was Lear's daughter. She was married to duke of Cornwall. She
wanted to get the biggest part of her father's Kingdom as Gonerel did
So, She talked in a false words to show her love to her Father. She
behaves in a bad Way towards her father she had taken the part of
the Kingdom. She didn't Support Lear When he left Goneril to live
with. Regan, and joined her sister Goneril against Their father She
was Killed by Goneril at last.

4- Cordelia:
She was Lear's youngest and dearest daughter. She Loved her father
even more than her sisters, but she couldn't be as deceitful as them.
She told her father that she loved him according to her duty. Lear
didn't like her speech, and didn't give her anything. She married King
of France who accepted to marry her for nothing. Finally She proved
that she was the only. Faithful daughter, and Supported her father,
after he was treated badly From Goneril and Regan-

Kent:( theme of faithfulness- loyalty)


Kent loved Lear, he honoured him as a king. He loved hi as a father
and followed him as a master. When Lear ordered Kent to leave
Britain, because he defended Cordelia He Couldn't leave the King
alone. He stayed and dressed himself as a servant to stay beside him.
Also he saved him from the storm and went to France to get
Cordelia's help,
Summary for the theme of greediness/ ungratefulness / appearance
vs reality

Both Goneril and Regan represent the theme of ……………………..

They told their father sweet coated words to take the biggest part of
the kingdom. They pretend to love him more than life and more than
their husband .but after they had their shares they showed him their
real character .They ignored him humiliated him, disrespected him.
They made him feel as a beggar which made him become mad.
