Only Krishna can understand what gopis meant and I am trying to write the same. May the
compassionate gopis accept my insistence upon writing. (May the gopis forgive me and give me their
own devotion or devotion unto their lotus feet. – SG)

By your birth Laksmi resides here and everyone is happy except us. (adhikam = Vraja is greater than
Vaikuntha)

Drsyatam = cannot you see our plight? Our separation? Our great endeavor to find you? All because we
are tavakah

Foolish women, then become somebody else’s. No that’s impossible You are dayita. We cannot even
have an iota of relationship with anyone else.

But kai ava-rahi am pemmam na hoe manuse loe | yadi hoi kassa virho virahe hontasmi ko jivai || then
how come you are still alive? Because we are tvayi dhrta asavah: Our life is in You. VCT – else we would
have been happy leaving our bodies- but our life airs are in You who are always happy – so although the
body is in pain, the life airs are happy thus we don’t die. And You are always happy by seeing us suffer.

Visuddha-rasa-dipika

At least come to see the wonder how we are looking for you although our lives have gone.

We are cakoris and You become our Moon to save us. Else it will be shame on Your part just as it is said
that after serving the husband of rivers (ocean) if the birds residing on banks have to drink water from a
lake then it is a shame for the ocean.

Also it is mentioned that if one plants poisonous tree even, it is inappropriate for him to cut it himself.
So You please save us who maintained us so far.

We tvadeka-jivanah ananya-gatikah

The vulture of death is fearful of the fire of separation thus he is not attacking the prey bird of our lives.

Hari suri

It is alright that you gave great punishment to our minds who committed offense of being proud but
why did you disappear from our eyes who were innocent and made them bereft of their happiness?
Giving punishment of one’s offense to someone else, is it not irreligious injustice?

You sport here to give pleasure to Vraja, so needless to say it again, please give pleasure to our group of
senses (gokula = vraja)

By Your glances through beautiful eyes You have stolen our lives and if You don’t come back and give
back our lives through Your glances again, You will be killing us.[ – like visasya visam ausadham (SNCT)]

VCT

So am I causing suffering for you? No, you are causing our death.

Visuddharasadipika

You stole the beauty of inside of lotus grown in sarad season by Your eyes. (Thus Your eyes are more
beautiful than inside of lotus)

You are thief = theft involves three things – stealing the wealth of even sadhus, knowing the most secret
treasure of others, crossing what is very difficult to cross – lotus is both sadhu by quality and birth, You
knew the inside beauty that was kept hidden by lotus and which was kept protected by surrounding her
by all sides by water – yet you stole her (other’s wife) so it is great crime. Further the lotus is brahmana
because of given birth to Brahma and contains fine thread inside – thus you stole property of brahmana
and that too his wife that too with both eyes. – indirectly this is what you did with us

Visajalaypyayad varsa-marutat

SNCT

If you have desire to kill us only, then why did You save us before?

VCT

Now that you protected us in the past, it is inappropriate to kill us now.

You saved Yourself from these demons, that is how You saved our lives. We took shelter of You to be
protected from fire of 5 arrows but You are giving us more suffering by separation, is it not improper?
Arishta and Vyoma vadha has not yet happened but they heard from Garga and Bhaguri about janma-
patrika of Krishna.

Rasika ahladini

If we die, You will also die, that is our concern. Although by Sankhacuda vadha only we were saved and
by killing Sudarsana the python, Nanda maharaj was saved, from Vyoma gopas will be saved, from
davagni pana all the vrajvasis are saved, yet Gopis consider in general protecting Vraja as same as
protecting them and destruction of Vraja would cause destruction of their lives thus they speak we are
saved.

Na khlu gopika nandano bhavan

Oh I protected you from them just so that I can kill you Myself, if You say like that You have born to
protect the world right? Are You not the son of mother Yasoda? (You are indeed and thus you know our
misery who are cowherd girls) Knowers of scripture say that You are born to protect the world and we
are part of the world so protect us as well.

VCT

O cowherd girls who are continuously speaking inappropriate words calling me traitor and women killer,
I will now go to seclusion and you will never be able to see Me again. Anticipating such speech from
Krishna, gopis try to pacify Krishna. Don’t be angry with us, we are speaking as You are inspiring us from
within as you are indweller acoridng to Paurnamasi and others.

You don’t seem like son of Yasoda as she is extremely kind and cannot see other’s sufferings. And you
don’t seem to have partaken any of her qualities thus we conclude that You must be paramatma who
just sits neutrally no matter what happens to the jiva and watches them and himself stays happy, O crest
jewel of neutral persons! We don’t even understand the reason of Your birth at present.

Brahma wanted to increase his creation and thus he requested You to appear and stay hidden so that
those who follow God also don’t attain liberation because of not understanding You and thus they
remain demoniac like Jarasandha. Thus to hide Yourself you have adopted the nature contrary to you
like stealing other’s wives, wealth, caurya, matsarya, himsa, dambha and given up your neutrality.
Sakhe, so by accepting the profile of stealing others’ wives you have become our friend also.

Just to taste the nectar of your sweet angry words, I disappeared, now I am pleased ask for benediction.
Thinking this, they speak these 4 verses.

You take away distress of Vraja gopis and not other women even celestial ones.

Rasikahladini

He sakhe we are your kinkaris – friend does not cheat a friend. Ye yatha mam prapadyante you have
only said. Vira, one who is magnanimous in distributing madhurya rasa or other brave people show their
bravery in front of contrary enemies and you are manifesting your bravery among us and by killing those
who are already dead you are not ashamed? Please show your lotus like face and cool us down. Then
give us your anga-sanga by keeping your feet on our hearts – bhaikshu pada prasarika nyayena – bhatala
dili osari bhata hata-paya pasari

Actually gopis have no desire for own happiness. They simply want to give Krishna happiness and at the
same time they want to hide that feeling from Krishna telling Him that ‘they’ want happiness. Thus they
protect the greatness of their love from becoming slackened by unnecessary verbal expression that we
selflessly love you. Rest that follows this type of mindset is simply worshippable nectar –

Madhuraya gira

Feeling inspiration of His words: My dear hearts and souls, I am never indifferent to you, I am bound by
your golden chain of love, how come you don’t trust me? Gopi replies: We are bewildered by Your
sweet words now bewilder us by making us drink the nectar from Your lips.

Tava kathamrtam

What kind of nectar it is? Rather it is poison only. Which makes life miserable, glorified by quick wit
poets but not by knowers of prema, which destroy sins but not separation, good to hear but not good in
experiencing , srimadatatam – proud by opulence thus whimsical,

VCT

Your pastimes are nectarean better than nectar of heaven and nectar of liberation – kavibhih = dhruva
and prahlad etc., ya nirvrtistanubhrtam – kalmasapaham – upto the prarabdha karma – heavenly nectar
rather increases sins and liberation cannot destroy prarabdha. Bhurida – their debt cannot be repayed
even by giving them one’s all possessions.

Your katha is nectar only whne comes with your presence, otherwise it is poison only mrtam = cause of
death – like water put on boiling oil. Then how is glorified in puranas? Because poets like Vyasa like to
describe so they describe (poets job is to describe) kalmasapaham – because of misery caused by it, it
destroys old sins, sravana-mangalam = because people hear about it, the poison is alive and if intelligent
stop hearing it understanding the misery caused by it, that this poison will be destroyed – srimad-atatam
– let people die hearing it from those blinded by wealth, with this attitude this poison is distributed to all
by arranging His katha in different villages even by spending money – bhurida – they thus kill people,
more dangerous than hunters as they set the net of katha and sit silently as if innocent. This is vyaja-
stuti

Even your other activities cause pain like your katha. Nectar in the beginning and poison at the end

Calasi yad vrajat

Not only you are giving us misery now, but other times also by causing harm to yourself you give us
suffering – Our mind quarrels with us when you wander in the forest as follows
Gopi – O mind, if His feet pain when they walk in the forest, why would He always go to the forest
leaving Vraja then? Why are you unnecessarily lamenting? Mind: Stupid gopis, His feet are more delicate
than lotuses, will they be not pained when they walk over pebbles, sharp grass, thorns, rocks etc.?
Gopis: You bewildered mind, He will walk on soft sand roads only. Mind – O foolish indiscriminate ones,
do the cows graze only on soft roads? Gopis: O love-blind, He has eyes so why will He step on rocks and
pebbles? Mind: O ones without even a scent of love, if in haste or mistake, if He steps upon them, then
what? Gopis: brother, you are speaking truth. We are created by Brahma just to live and suffer this way.
Mind: Oh miserable ones, then live like that. As for I am concerned, I am going to leave your bodies and
with your life airs I am right now only exiting to go there.

Most beautiful conversation ever with the mind..

This is the nature of mind of lovers – with some imagination they are always worried – the more the
affection more the imagination of harm and more the distress – according to Mahabharata also.

Yaavatah kurute jantuh sambandhat manasah priyan | tavantosy nikhanyante hrdaye soka-sankavah ||

Anista sankini bandhu hrdayani | when Mahaprabhu disappears suddenly

Likewise we are distressed whole day and at least at the end of the day do you release our distress? No
way, you just increase our distress. actually – in our minds there is no cupid without love but you only
inspire it forcibly

Alright, what has happened has happened, now what shall I do?

Thinking that Krishna might think: Sinceyou confirm that I am always giving you distress, then enough of
Me for you now, gopis think – o we held Krishna responsible for our suffering then they started to please
Him: You forgave the surrendered like Kaliya and his wives also padmaja arcitam – forgave Brahma, so
please forgive us as well. Decorate our breasts as well with your lotus feet just a you decorate the earth.
There is no efforts for you it will just fulfill your desire (rantum iccha riramsa – Ramana)

Surata-vardhanam

SNCT

You don’t want to offer your feet to our breasts because they are the ornament of earth, then please
give us the nectar of your lips as they have no connection with the earth. Oh you are shameless, you
want the remnants of flute? Yes, because it is soka-nasanam – while taking medicine there is no
consideration or shame. Rasayana is of two types – one that brings strength to the healthy and one that
removes disease – yours act as both

Well, this medicine is not given to those who follow kupathya – attachment to home, relatives and
family. “But this medicine is powerful, it automatically helps one get over the proscriptions”

Atati yad bhavan

Moment’s 27th part appears like a yuga for us due to blinking – it is our ill destiny alone

If you cannot tolerate delay, then why don’t you go home? Anticipating this, the ones who have spiritual
bodies and who have given up material bodies answer: Don’t make us fall again

They have no connection with their husbands – the children mentioned are due to joking of Krishna or
they belong to their neighbors or cowives.

Rahasi samvidam

Your five arrows of cupid enters our hearts through eyes and burns us – first is rati-prarthana-vyanjaka-
sambhasanam, second is asmad-avalokana hetukam, third is smiling face, forth is loving glance, fifth is
broad chest

Yatte sujata-caranamburuham

SNCT

Why are we crying in forest? Enough of our duhkha-katha. But at least release us from the distress we
feel for you. Your heart is only hard but lotus feet are very soft.
