Walking the Tiler's Sword
The prelude to the Tiler's Oath, also commonly known as Walking the Tiler's Sword,
should be performed as follows:
The sword is placed on the floor. The Brother "Walking" the sword will retire four paces
from the point of the sword, then advance three regular upright steps, giving the Step,
Due Guard, and Sign of the three Degrees in their natural sequence (E.A., FC., and
M.M.) the Brother will then advance another step with his left foot, kneel, and pick up the
sword by the point with his left hand- the right hand will be used to support the shaft of
the sword. The Brother then places the point of the sword near his heart and repeats the
following:
I, (Repeat Name), do hereby on my honor solemnly and sincerely swear that I
have been regularly initiated, passed, and raised to the sublime Degree of a
Master Mason in a just and Regularly constituted Lodge of such; that I do not
now stand suspended or expelled; and I know of no reason why I should not
hold Masonic communication with my Brethren.
