About the teachers
Miss Sparrow
I’ve just recently moved to North Carolina to be closer to family. Prior to
moving I lived in Valdosta, Georgia where I attended college. Although this is
my second-year teaching, this is my first year in Kindergarten! During my free
time I love to read, catch up on tv, and play with my dog Nola and cat Talulah.
Mrs. Davis
I was born and raised here in Rutherfordton, NC. This will be my 3rd year here at TJCA.
But before this I was a teacher and an assistant director for a daycare. I am married and
have two handsome, rambunctious boys. I love sports and going to the beach!

A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent, the teacher, and
the school. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by
daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is key.
If your child plans to go home a different way than usual , you MUST send an email, written
note, or contact the office NO LATER than lunchtime. Please don’t rely on your child to tell us
about the change. If there is no written note or call your child will go home as usual.
School work
Please look in your child’s book bag each day. We will send school
information by way of your child. Each day your child will bring home a
folder that will contain your child’s work and activities and important notes
or information. Please look over work and keep it at home unless it is to be
signed and returned. Please send the folder to school EVERY day. Please
send all notes, money, and other important items in your child’s folder.
Snack/Lunch
Snack
We will have snack each morning at 10:00. Please send a snack daily in
a small bag, labeled with their name, separate from their lunch box.
Please only send one healthy snack and a water to drink.
Lunch
Please send a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated or heated.
Our lunch time is 12:00-12:30. We have a hot lunch program at the
school. Meals are $3.50 per day.
Rest time
Our class will rest for about 30 minutes each afternoon.
Your child will not be required to go to sleep but must relax
and rest quietly during this time. Rest time will be
decreased gradually throughout the year.
Field trips
We will go on several field trips throughout the year.
Parents are welcome to chaperone. We will let you know of
field trips a few weeks in advance. Please note that siblings
are not allowed to accompany us on field trips.
Birthdays & Treats
Birthdays are wonderful!!! Simple treats may be brought by
you (or sent to school) on your child’s birthday. Sending a
birthday treat is optional. Please let us know ahead of time if
you plan on doing something special.
uniforms
Please be sure your child is dressed in the proper uniform
attire as written in the handbook. A note will be sent
home if your child is not in the correct uniform clothing.
Class behavior plan
1. Listen and follow directions.
2. Wait your turn to speak.
3. Raise your hand.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects
to yourself.
5. Treat others with kindness.
homework
This is still being determined by the kindergarten team. If there
is any homework you will be notified by email or on Google
Classroom. If you would like some extra practice work for your
child, please reach out! We’d be happy to send some home.
volunteering
We love help from our parents! However, in order to give us time to
bond with your child and teach them class rules and procedures, we
will not begin a volunteer program for six weeks. When we get ready
to start, we will send you the guidelines and set up a time period for
you to come. Volunteering MUST be scheduled ahead of time in order
to make plans for you on a certain day.
communication
Please refer to the paper inside your student’s folder on how to
access Google Classroom!
Please check google classroom often. I will be posting what we are
studying, special dates, important information, and pictures.
