Mette iti Rody Sentences (Affirmative, Negative and Interrogative) Affirmative sentence Affirmative sentence means the sentences which are used to describe any general action, event, speech, or expression. Example: I want to visit the place as soon as possible. We got the message a few days age from John. ye fohiMwe TALL ken-y Negative sentence means the sentences which are used to express the negative expressions in case of daily acts, events, speeches, and so on. Example: Ido not want to visit the place as soon as possible. We didn’t get the message a few days ago from John. Interrogative sentence An interrogative sentence asks a direct question and is punctuated at the end with a question mark. Interrogative sentences allow you to gather information and clear up confusion. Example: Were you too late? Where did I leave my car keys? Interchange Of Affirmative Into Negative Sentences Rule 1. Interchanging Affirmative into Negative sentences by using ‘not! before Opposite words Examples : (a) Affirmative : This girl is intelligent. Negative : This girl is not dull. (b) Affirmative : She is a beautiful girl. Negative : She is not an ugly girl. Rule 2. If the sentence of Comparative degree is Affirmative then use 'not' in Positive degree to make Negative sentence. Example : Affirmative : You are greater than Ravi. Negative : Ravi is not so great as you. Interchange Of Affirmative Into Negative Sentences If the sentence of Positive degree is Affirmative then use ‘not’ in Comparative degree to make Neg sentence. Example: Affirmative : Your daughter is as wise as you. Negative : You are not wiser than your daughter. Rule 3. Replace ‘alone' or ‘only’ with ‘None but! by using ‘None but' in the starting (@) Affirmative : Sita alone got good marks. Negative : None but Sita got good marks. (b) Affirmative : Only good boys are successful. Negative : None but good boys are successful. Interchange Of Affirmative Into Negative Sente Slide 6 of 17 Rule 4. Removing Adverb 'too' : Example : (a) Affirmative : She is too weak to walk. Negative : She is so weak that she cannot walk. Rule 5. By using ‘did not fail’ : Example : (a) Affirmative : She helped me in my need. Negative : She did not fail to help me in my need. Interchange Of Affirmative Into Negative Sentences Rule 6. Replace 'As soon as' by 'No sooner' then change Affirmative sentence into Interrogative, then use 'than' between both the clauses and do not use Question Mark (?). Example : Affirmative : As soon as the teacher entered the class, all the students stood up. Negative : No sooner did the teacher enter the class than all the students stood up. nterchange Of Affirmative Into Interrogative Sentences If we find that there is no helping verb in the assertive sentence, we will write interrogative sentence using “Do/Does/Did”. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: They play cricket. Interrogative: Do they not play cricket? Assertive: Manqj reads English newspaper. Interrogative: Does not Manaj read English newspaper? Interchange Of Affirmative Into Interrogative Sentences If we find the word “Never” in assertive sentence, we will write the word “Ever” instead of that word [Never] at the time of interrogative sentence. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: Ranjan never takes tea. Interrogative: Does Ranjan ever take tea? Assertive: She never loved me. Interrogative: Did she ever love me? Macc oe ne ead If we find the word “Nothing” in assertive sentence, we will write the word “Anything” instead of that word [Nothing] at the time of interrogative } sentence. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: He said nothing about this matter. Interrogative: Did he say anything about this matter? Assertive: have nothing to do. Interrogative: Have you anything to do? Interchange Of Affirmative Into Interrogative Sentences If we find “Nothing but” in assertive sentence, we will write “Anything but” or use “What” instead of [Nothing but] at the time of interrogative sentence. is nothing but a walking shadow. Interrogative:|s our life anything but a walking shadow? Or What is our life but a walking shadow? Assertive: He gave me nothing but love. Interrogative: Did he give me anything but love? Or What did he give me but love? Mice kon ue eae If we find “Every + noun” in assertive sentence, we will write “Is there any + noun + whot negative” at the time of interrogative sentence. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: Every man wishes to be happy. Interrogative:\s there any man who does not wish to be happy? Assertive: Every mother loves her < Interrogative:\s there any mother who does net love her child? Moc ona eu If we find “Every + noun” in assertive sentence, we will write “Is there any + noun + whot negative” at the time of interrogative sentenc: FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: Every man wishes to be happy. Interrogative:|s there any man who does not wish to be happy? Assertive: Every mother loves her child. Interrogative:\s there any mother who does not love her child? Prone ees If we find the words “Someone/ somebody! everybody/ everyone/ no one/ nobedy/ anybody/ anyone” in assertive sentence, we will write the word “Who" instead of those words [Someone/ somebody/ everybody! everyone! no one/ nobody/ anybody/ anyone] and make the affirmative sentence into negative and the negative into affirmative sentence at the time of interrogative sentence. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: Everybody loves her children. Interrogative: Who does net love her children? Assertive: Everybody has some needs. Interrogative: Who has no needs? Rares Most of the time we should make the assertive (affirmative) sentences negative interrogative if we want to make interrogative. FOR EXAMPLE: Assertive: He reads in this college. Interrogative: Does he not read in this coll Assertive: The sun rises in the east. Interrogative: Does not the sun rise in the east? PEGE 1) He always minds his lesson. Ans: He never neglects his lesson. 2) I shall always remember you. Ans: | shall never forget you. 3) He turned all the stones. Ans: He left no stone unturned. 4) You are the only person fit for the job. Ans: No other person but you are fit for the job. 5) Everybody will admit that | am right. Ans: Nobody will deny that | am right. 1) She lives in Canada. Ans: Does she live in Canada? 2) He has always wanted to be an inventor. Ans: Has he always wanted to be an inventor? 3) You can understand why I'm upset. Ans: Can you understand why I'm upset? 4) All the managers were taught how to use the new software. Ans: Were all the managers taught how to use the new software? 5) There's a doctor in the house. Ans: Is there a doctor in the house?
