Advanced Language Analysis


This course provides advanced training in the analysis of language, focusing on the
phonological, morpho-syntactic and semantic elements of English and Pacific languages.
English teachers will learn to apply these analytic techniques to practical classroom
approaches that will transform the teaching of English pronunciation, grammar and
vocabulary in the context of the Pacific region. Students intending to pursue a research
degree in Descriptive Linguistics will learn to apply these analytic techniques to a detailed
description of one or more Pacific languages.

Sociolinguistics
This course is an introduction to sociolinguistics, that part of linguistics that studies the
connection between language and society. Speakers of the same language do not all speak
exactly the same way, and an individual speaker does not speak the same way all the time.
Through a variety of readings, discussions, and assignments, we will explore language
variation across regions, ethnicity, social class, gender, age, and more. Students will learn
how sociolinguistic research is conducted and will become familiar with the major findings of
sociolinguistic research studies.

Language Acquisition and Multilingualism


This course provides in-depth coverage of the way first and subsequent languages are
acquired and learned, with specific reference to the Pacific context. The course addresses
the acquisition of one or more languages in a non-school environment, as well as formal,
classroom-based teaching and learning. Topics covered include the roles of input, motivation
and explicit instruction within language learning, theoretical perspectives on bilingualism and
multilingualism, models of bilingual and multilingual education, and different approaches to
the teaching of vernaculars and languages of wider communication.

Research Methods
This mandatory entry level postgraduate diploma course in SPACE and SOLASS provides
students with a blended generic and discipline-based training in research design and
methodologies. It is a prerequisite course for students undertaking independent research at
the postgraduate level in the humanities and social sciences and related discipline areas.
The course delivers training in a range of generic transferable research skills, linking them to
relevant research, pedagogical, epistemological and scholarship issues at the discipline
level.

What does the program aim to do?


The PG Diploma Linguistics builds on the undergraduate program in Linguistics and
develops students’ skills in describing and analyzing languages of the region. It provides a
progression route to an MA in Linguistics, during which students can carry out independent
research into their own language, or a language-related issue of interest to them.

Time:
The students can take two courses each semester and complete the program in one year in
a Full-time, also if they choose Part-time the students can take one course each semester
and complete the program in two years.

Where:
Courses can be taken from any country in online mode. You will need a good internet
connection in order to access the online materials and join Zoom sessions if you are
studying remotely. There will also be a final exam for some courses, for which you will need
to attend your nearest USP campus. Those studying from outside the USP region should get
in touch well in advance of the application deadline, so that we can work out logistical
arrangements for exams and amin. Students at Laucala Campus can attend face-to-face
sessions in addition as part of a Blended offering.

Achievements:
Some courses are assessed through a series of coursework tasks (60%) and a final exam
(40%). Others are 100% coursework. And on successful completion of the programme, you
will be awarded a postgraduate diploma. If you achieve a GPA of 3.0 or above (average
Grade B), you will be eligible to apply for admission to an MA programme.

In the following essay we focus on the main universities around the world that grant a
Bachelor's Degree in both Translation and Interpreting and Teaching (or pedagogy) of the
same language. This with the objective of nurturing and knowing the professional panorama
of these degrees in other parts of the world, as well as knowing and locating the differences
or similarities that they share with our Bachelor's Degree in Language Sciences. At the same
time, it has been specified which are the entrance and graduation requirements that each
university demands to its students to be able to carry out the degree procedures, and the
type of degree that some of these Universities offer.

Finally, it is important to mention that each of these universities offer great areas of learning
and each of them is constantly changing to improve their educational models and, thus,
provide a better education in this growing area of study.

Conclusion

Exploring similar languages degrees in various international universities provides us a new

Europe

Spain

One of the main options when people think about teaching English in Europe
is in Spain. It is one of the most paradisiac places to travel around and work. The common
regions where the need for English teaching are Madrid, Granada, Zaragoza, Seville,
Barcelona, Malaga, and Majorca. There is no legal requirement for a bachelor’s degree,
some schools may require it, although the possibility to get a job as an English teacher is
higher when the individual has a college degree or an academic background.

A TEFL certification is not an official requirement, however most employers


will only offer teaching jobs to those who have completed at least a basic TEFL course. For
shorter contracts (2 weeks – 3 months) working in summer camps, a 20 – 30-hour
classroom course would be sufficient. However, if the individual wants to teach English
long-term, a TEFL course of at least 120 hours (about 5 days) is recommended.

The opportunities working in Spain are available, there is no set age limits,
there are chances to work as a cultural assistant to teaching at a private language academy
to short summer placements at camps.

Italy

Also, another great option that is widely considered amongst instructors is


Italy, where the beautiful sets and places of this country have made it one of the main
options when English instructors think of teaching in Europe, besides the wonderful food
served there. Because of these reasons, Italy has been of popular option for many teachers
to be there and give their English lessons.

In Italy, the regions where there are greater opportunities are Rome, Milan,
Venice, Florence, Napoles, Bologna, Sardinia, and the Adriatic Coast, although there are job
opportunities all over the country.

The average salary of an English teacher in Italy will be around 1,000 to


1,500 EUR per month.

To teach English in Italy, you will usually need a 120-hour TEFL certification
and some previous teaching experience. A bachelor’s degree is not a prerequisite, but many
schools do prefer to hire degree-holders.
Opportunities to teach in Italy include working at private language schools,
teach English abroad programs or international schools, as well as teaching private lessons
and placements at summer camps.

While most English teaching jobs will not expect you to be fluent in Italian
when you arrive, having some of the local language can go a long way to helping secure a
job. For certain English program placements, a qualification in Italian language is a
requirement.

Germany

Another great option that teacher seek after because this country offers job
opportunities to English teachers despite helping many people to understand how to speak
this complex but interesting language to foreign people. With its long history and beautiful
countryside, Germany has been considered for a lot of people to be a beautiful place for
English teachers to travel there.

The most popular locations for teaching jobs are Berlin, Munich, Freiburg, and
Frankfurt but, if you are a brand new TEFL teacher, you will find you have a much better
chance of securing a teaching job in the less popular cities and towns, particularly in Eastern
Germany.

The monthly average salary for full-time teaching positions in Germany is


likely to be in the region of €1,200 to €2,000 (£1,1123-£1,872/$1,297-$2,162) but full-time
positions are rare. Instead, most teachers are freelance and get a rate per lesson.

The only set-in-stone requirement you need to teach English in Germany is a


TEFL certification. If you have experience, many schools are not fussy about what sort of
TEFL qualification you have, but 120-hour TEFL courses are usually considered the
minimum. You do not require a bachelor’s degree to work as a teacher in Germany.
However, that does not mean you will not see plenty of schools looking for one. A degree
can certainly help to boost your chances, particularly if you studied German or business, but
there are still opportunities for those without.

There is no official age restriction for teaching English in Germany, however


certain types of schools have their own rules. For English-language classroom assistants in
secondary schools (who have studied German, preferably at university, for at least two
years) applications are welcome from those under 30. For other positions, experience is
usually necessary and so noticeably young teachers will struggle to find good positions.
Germans expect knowledgeable, intelligent, and formal teachers, and as such may prefer
older teachers to young ones.

camps, international schools, teaching assistant positions at public schools and
freelance/private tutoring work.

Denmark

Denmark offers a variety of courses and qualifications for aspiring English


teachers. These programs provide the necessary training and knowledge to effectively teach
English as a foreign language (EFL) in various settings, including public schools, private
language schools, and online platforms.

The Netherlands

In addition to a bachеlor's dеgrее, you will also nееd to havе a TEFL

Through this BA English Language and Applied Linguistics, you’ll do both: English
language teaching is an integral part of your course, while you’ll also have the opportunity to
