Analysis Of Shiloh By Bobbie Ann Mason
When I hear the word Shiloh, I automatically think of the Battle of Shiloh along with
the children s novel Shiloh; either a full blown war or an abused beagle. However,
Bobbie Ann Mason s Shiloh took an interesting twist to the name. I feel, in a way,
Mason was able to incorporate both the war aspect and a form of abuse, neglect, and
intertwine it into making a beautiful short story. The way Mason could withhold
important information until the very end is remarkable. Shiloh keeps the reader
invested in the story by having the person who reads the piece of literature guess what
is really going on between the characters and wondering the what if s of the story. The
plot of this short story is wrapped around a couple who has been through a great deal
in such a short time frame. Norma Jean is married to Leroy Moffitt, a truck driver who
injured his leg in a highway accident (Mason 645). This causes Leroy to be home
resting and recovering for months on end instead of on the road for his job. Any wife
would feel safe and happy to have their man around, but Norma Jean is not like a
typical wife. When Norma Jean was eighteen she became pregnant and married Leroy
because it is frowned upon to be with child out of wedlock. However, shortly after
Randy their son was born, he passed away at four months and three days due to sudden
infant death syndrome(Mason 648). Without Randy, Norma Jeans and Leroy s life turned
out completely different than what they had
Teaching Is An Integral Part Of My Personality
Teaching is an integral part of my personality, it is not just a job that takes a few hours
of my day, nor is it a means to earn a living, rather it is a way of life. Since the early
days of my youth, I used to imagine myself as a teacher, and to discuss with myself
what I have learned, directing questions and trying to extract answers. Such a way
proved to be very fruitful, not only in explaining the targeted topics, but also in raising
new ideas in my mind. Afterwards it became clear to me; I know that I understand
something when I can explain it to others. This has become my way of dealing with any
subject. When the topic is difficult, I consider myself in front of a personal challenge,
and do my best to simplify it into its easiest possible level. This has become my basic
contribution in teaching, to dismantle any complex topic to its simplest elements, so that
students do not face any problem in dealing with it; that is in discussing, analysing, and
understanding it. The conversion of complex ideas into simpler equivalents is such an
arduous task that requires time and effort, but I chose this it as my method in teaching,
because I believe that it is the students right to get clear ideas, not a confused set of
thoughts. Apart from my personal inclinations, my teaching experience has provided me
with a good opportunity to deal with students from diverse backgrounds, and to explore
different teaching methods with them. As a lecturer at Cairo University, I have gained
William Jennings Bryan s Influence On The United States
William Jennings Bryan was born in Salem, Illinois. He was educated at Illinois
College in Jacksonville and Union Law School in Chicago. Bryan practiced law in
Jacksonville for several years, but in 1887 moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he
hoped to launch a political career. The Bryans became active in civic affairs and
started different discussion groups for men and women where the subject was often
politics. He was the Democratic candidate for Congress in a Republican district in
Nebraska, but he won the election by a comfortable margin and was reelected in 1892.
He made a bid for the Senate in 1894 but was defeated.
During his campaign for the Senate, Bryan took up the free silver cause, a political
movement that advocated the free coinage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stayed in Tennessee to finalize and print the speech he had planned to use in closing
argument before the court. Five days after the trial ended, on July 26, 1925, while still
in Tennessee, Bryan died in his sleep. As a train bearing his body passed through the
countryside on its way to Washington, D.C., thousands of the common people Bryan had
championed gathered to pay their respects. The nation s capital was in official mourning
as Bryan lay in state. At his request, he was buried with full military honors at Arlington
National Cemetery, an ironic footnote to the life of a fervent
Understanding Literacy And Its Basic Definition
Literacy is a resource that when allocated amidst political, social and gender constraints
benefits society as a whole. Literacy by its basic definition is how one can read, write
and communicate effectively with people. Beyond that, it s about being competent in a
subject area. For example, reading in a literate level means that a person is able to read
fluently by pronouncing words correctly without many mistakes. Another form of literacy
when reading, is when a person can read in public without having many issues. For
example in a conference, meeting, or social gathering, the person is adept in being
competent. Of course this idea of literacy and competency is subjective by nature.
Utilizing proper vocabulary, grammar and structure are components of being literate in
the discipline of English. Communicationis essential as well and can also be a form of
literacy. Communicating is how a person has the ability to develop a strong argument
against someone and provide more reasons why their point may be argued. It is
important to realize that it is also important to listen to others and benefit from the life
experiences of others literacy. In a technologically driven society my literacy in
computers has benefited me immensely, as it has allowed me to bestow upon others
forms of competency that will hopefully be a domino effect of education that betters
society. Literacy is the ability to read and write, or be competent in a discipline. It is
important to be

How Did Shakespeare Impact The European Renaissance
Many have argued about just what defined the Renaissance, be it the artwork, the rulers,
or the community of the era itself, but nothing compares to effect of literature on the
European Renaissance. Literature ingrained itself into the period by expanding the
populous view and their ability to access information, creating a more creative and
educated public. This, consequently, kick started multiple inventions, pieces of art, and
research that would change how we viewed the world forever. Johann Gutenberg is
presumed to be the inventor of the printing press, starting the first printing company in
the late 1430 s. Before the press, all books and other writings had been done by hand,
resulting in script being expensive, inconsistent, and prone... Show more content on

William, in total, wrote more than thirty plays and one hundred and fifty four sonnets,
resulting in him being recognized as one of the most influential writers of history, but
despite this, not much is known about the man. From what historians have gathered, his
father had a high enough standing in the socioeconomic chain to afford a well rounded,
humanistic education, (Milne 682 704) for William, meaning he had plentiful access to
information and most types of literature. Because Shakespeare was able to access such
information, it not only allowed him to write masterpieces that would be shared for
multiple millennium, but it also enabled him to travel all about Europe (an educated man
like himself made enough money to do so). Another author who found themselves
embedded within the literature boom was Elizabeth Carey, a woman who, amidst her
husband s abusive family controlling her livelihood, was the first female playwright to
write a play in English. When her husband, Sir Henry Carey, went off to fight in Spain,
Elizabeth moved in with his family who enforced the rule of No Reading upon her. To
spite them, she wrote instead. The Tragedy of Mariam was completed in this time, the
play earning her her title of the first woman to write a play in English and inspired
others to pursue literature and language, even if the world seems to be set up against
