2. Name the main function of the cardiovascular system.
Circulates and pumps blood throughout the body
3. Name at least 3 things carried/circulated in the blood.
Oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, hormones, wastage
4. Be able to put in order the flow of blood through the heart and lungs. (Hint:
starting in the right atrium…)

artery, Lungs, Pulmonary Veins, Left Atrium, Mitral Valve, Left
ventricle,Aortic valve, Aorta, to the body, Superior and Inferior vena cavae
Unit 6 Test Review
5. What is the heart’s pacemaker?
Sinoatrial Node/SA node
6. What type of blood do arteries carry (and what is the 1 exception)? What type of
blood do veins carry (and what is the 1 exception)? What happens in capillaries?
Arteries:carry oxygen rich blood from the heart to rest of body except for
pulmonary artery
Veins:carry deoxygenated blood back to heart except pulmonary veins
Capillaries:have thin walls that allow oxygen and nutrients to pass through
and carbon dioxide from the cells
7. Be able to describe the life span and purpose of erythrocytes and leukocytes.
How many different leukocytes are there? What are thrombocytes also known as
and what do they do?
Erythrocytes: 120 days;carry oxygen and carbon dioxide
Leukocytes: 3-9 days;fight infection;5 types
Thrombocytes:platelets;main component of clotting blood
8. Blood cells are also known as formed elements.
9. Blood is 55% plasma and 45% formed elements.
10. What are the 4 blood types? What is the universal donor? What is the universal
recipient?
A,B,AB,O
universal donor:O
universal recipient:AB
11. Be able to recognize the following cardiovascular conditions:
Hypertension:high blood pressure
Myocardial infarction:aka heart attack, blockage of coronary artery
Congestive heart failure:heart is unable to pump enough blood to
meet the body’s need for oxygen and nutrients
Anemia:inadequate number of red blood cells,low hemoglobin,or
both
Unit 6 Test Review
Respiratory system
1. Be able to label the following on a diagram of the respiratory system:
a. Lungs
b. Trachea
c. Pharynx
d. Bronchus
e. Nose
2. Name the main function of the respiratory system.
To bring oxygen into the body and get rid of carbon dioxide
3. What are the 2 types of respiration (breathing)?
External lungs and Internal cells
4. What is the site of gas exchange (what structure in the lungs)?
alveoli
5. Know the number of lobes in each lung.
3 in right
2 in left
6. What is hypoxemia? What is dyspnea?
Hypoxemia:low levels of oxygen in blood
Dyspnea:difficult,painful breathing; SOB
7. Be able to recognize the following respiratory conditions?
Influenza:the flu,viral, highly contagious
Emphysema:chronic,alveoli lose elasticity and deteriorate
COPD:any chronic lung disease that results in obstruction of the
airways
Asthma:airflow obstruction due to bronchospasm, swelling of the
bronchioles/bronchi
